ing at the Court House, Hillsborough, on
Wednesday, the 29th day of December, 1954, at

Ordinance, 1938.

Inspection of Motor Vehicles for the half-year
period, 1st January to 30th June, 1955.


Regulation 22 of the Motor Yehicles and
Road Traffic Regulations, 1938.

WNERS of Public Service Vehicles (including
Motor Omnibuses and Hiring Cars) Goods
Vehicles and Trailers, are hereby notified that the
half-yearly inspection of these vehicles will com-
mence as follows:-
Grenville Police Station.
Thursday 2nd., Thursday 9th, Thursday 16th
and Thursday 30th December, 1954 from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sauteurs Police Station.
Friday 3rd, Friday 10th and Friday 17th
December, 1954, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Victoria Police Station.
Wednesday 8th December, 1954, from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. and Wednesday 15th December

Owners of such vehicles are advised to pay in-
spection fees from now onwards at their respective
District Revenue Offices and then approach the
Inspector of Motor Vehicles at the Traffic Branch,
New Fire Station, Carenage, in advance with a
view to effecting any alterations that may be
necessary to comply with the provisions of the
Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1938,
and of the Regulations made thereutder.


Vehicles must be presented in a thoroughly
clean condition, and must have been recently over-
hauled. The body and wings, axle, chassis, frame,
steering arms, springs, trackrods, brake connections,
shackles, bolts, nuts, split pins, engine, eengine
shield and case; clutch, gearbox, magneto or coil,
air filter, carburettor and all working parts must
be cleaned in order to admit of proper examination.
Dust covers, if used, must be removed before, pre-
sentation in order to admit of an examination
being made in full. All split pins, etc., must be
clearly exposed, also chassis and engine numbers.
Drivers' seats must be securly fastened so that the
driver can have proper control over the vehicle.
Spot lights, musical horns and whistles are strictly
prohibited. Each vehicle must have its tare and
maximum gross weight painted in white figures not
less than 2 inches in height upon a black ground
in a conspicuous place on the right or offside of
the vehicle.
The Registered Identification marks on all
vehicles must conform to provisions of Regulations
7, 8 and 9 and the Second Schedule to the Regula-
tions No. 35 of 1938, and be in such a condition as
to render each letter or figure readily distinguish-
able. The attention of owners of M otor Omnibuses
and Goods Vehicles is specially directed to Regula',
tion 23 (II) (a) regarding the position of front
lamps. Spot lights will not be allowed except with
the written approval of the Licensing Authority.
The attention of the owners of Hiring Cars and
Motor Omnibuses is directed to the Motor Vehicles
and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, No. 6
of 1944, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic (Amendment No. 2) Regulations,
No. 70 of 1946 which require that printed copies
of the Tariffs of Maximum Fares be displayed in
such Vehicles. These are now available and may
be purchased at the Treasury, St. George's, and at
any District Revenue Office, at 4 cents per copy..
Vehicles which have been found by the Inspector
'to have defects must not be used on the roads
until they have been issued with a Certificate,
certifying that the vehicles may be duly licensed.

CUSTOMS.


IT has been the custom hitherto to use the f.o.b.
"market" value of produce as the declared
value to be entered on Shipping Bills.
2, As from 1st January, 1955, the declared value
of all domestic Exports shall b known as the
Transactions value," that is to say, the value at
which the goods are being sold by the exporter
including export duties, cost of transportation,
insurance and similar charges imposed locally.
3. In the case of goods shipped on consignment
an estimated value, based on the existing price of
the article in question, shall be used in the first
instance; and on receipt of the relative account
sales, adjustments should be made along with the
payment of the correct amount of Additional
Export Duty.
