Taxes Management Ordinance Cap. 221 of the laws
in respect of Land and House Tax for the year 1951,

Wednesday 22nd September, 1954, at the Revenue

Supreme Court of the Windward Islands and
Leeward Islands at Grenada, in its Criminal
Jurisdiction, will be held at the Court House, in the
town of St. George, on Tuesday the 5th day of
October, 1954, at 9.30 o'clock in the forenoon, when
and where all concerned and bound over to
prosecute or to give evidence or summoned as
Jurors or Witnesses are required to give their

GOVERNMENT NOTICE.
Vacancies for Executive Engineers and
Engineers in the British Guiana Civil Service.

APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
- qualified persons wishing to secure appoint-
ment to one or other of several posts for Executive
Engineers and Engineers in the British Guiana
Civil Service required in connexion with the
Colony's development programme.
2. The post will be filled either on a pension-
able basis (in which case, if considered desirable,
a successful candidate may be required to serve
on probation in the first instance for a period not
exceeding two. years) or on three to five-year con-
tracts on the special terms stated hereunder,
according to the preferences of the successful
candidates :
3. Persons applying for appointments of Execu-
tive Engineer must possess the A.M.I.C.E. and
have had experience as engineers and in handling
labour. They should preferably be between the
ages of 25 and 40 years.
4. Persons applying for appointments of
Engineer must have passed parts "A" and "B" of
the A.M.I.C.E. or must possess a University
Degree recognized as exempting them from the
above-mentioned sections of the A.M.I.C.E.
5. The emoluments offered for these appoint-
ments are as follows:-
Executive Engineers.
(a) If Pensionable.-
(i) salary $5,040 (1,050) per annum;
(ii) temporary non-pensionable cost-of-living
allowance $300 (62 10s) per annum.
(iii) the prospect of an improvement in the
abovementioned emoluments (to be
granted retrospectively,from the date
of the Officers appointment) on com-
pletion of the general revision of
salaries now being undertaken.

granted retrospectively from the date

(b) If on Contract.-
(i) a minimum initial salary of $4,032
(840) pi- annhum in the scale $3,000
(625)-$4,8C0 (-1,000) per annum-
see (a) (i) abov---lut. the salary of a
contract officer will not be subject to
review;
(ii) a gratuity (payable, if desired at the end
of each complete period of six months
satisfactory service including approved
leave) equivalent to 229 of salary
earned during that period.
6. Leave (in the cases of both pensionable and
contract Executive Engineers andEngineers) is
earned at the rate of 5 days for each complete
month of resident service up to a maximum of
six months subject to a minimum tour of two
years' resident service. In the case of a pension-
able officer, free leave passages (to a limit of
260. 8s. 4d. each) will be provided for the officer
and wife (but not his children) after he has com-
pleted a minimum tour, subject to the provision
of funds annually by the Legislative Council and
to the requirements of the Public Officers Leave
(Passages) Regulations.
7. All officers will be provided on first appoint-
ment with passages for themselves and families
(i.e. wife and children) not exceeding in any one
case five persons. Children to be under 18 years,
unmarried'a'nd dependent on the officer. In the
case of an officer on contract, free passages for
..himself and family back to the place from which
he was recruited will be provided on the satis-
factory conclusion of his contract.

Post of Crown Land Surveyor. Dominica.

PPLICATIONS are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment on con-
tract to the hon-pensionable post of Crown Land
Surveyor in the Department of Agriculture and
Forestry, Dominica, for a period of three years in
the first instance.
Salary will be at a fixed rate in the scale
$2,400 x $120-$3,360 per annum depending on
qualifications. Subsistence allowance will be pay-
able at current rates when working away from
assigned headquarters. Quarters are not provided.
Transport allowance will be paid at current rates
if the officer is required by Government to maintain
a means of transport.

be provided on satisfactory completion of contract.
