Notice to Friendly Societies.

EVERAL Societies have not yet had their books
and accounts audited for the year 1952, and
many more are in arrears of their quinquennial
returns. May I request that these matters be
attended to without further delay, and that Auditors
lend their co-operation in securing compliance with
this request.
I also desire to draw the attention of many
Societies to the very large sums which have been
appearing on the expenditure side of their accounts
in some instances in excess of their receipts.
It is time that the term defendantss" should be
given proper definition in the rules of Societies and
be confined to persons or relatives of a member's
household who do depend on that member for
maintenance, and provision shall be made for re-
moving such persons or relatives from that category
as soon as they become independent of the member.

399

GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, NOVEMBER 14, 1953.-(No. 60.)

Wherever it is practicable Societies should enter
into contracts for medical services including the
supply of medicines. Sums spent for these services
are assuming such large proportions that some
societies will survive only by increasing the con-
tributions of members-a step which is usually
opposed,
Sick Visitors should show the highest degree of
vigilance over sick fellow members with the view to
conserving the funds of their Societies.

J. H. V. REDHEAD,
Registrar Friendly Societies.

Grenada,
26th October, 1953.
