DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

Cocoa Industry Improvement Scheme

Distribution of Rooted Cuttings of Selected
Strains of Grenada Cocoa for planting in
1954.

IT is estimated that there will be rooted cocoa
cuttings at the cocoa propagation stations
available to plant 300 acres in 1954.
2. Persons desirous of obtaining rooted cocoa
cuttings from the cocoa stations, should apply on
the forms provided for that purpose, entitled:
" Application Form for Rooted Cocoa Cuttinas
Propagated for Distribution by the Cocoa Industry
Improvement Scheme of Grenada".
3. Application forms should be forwarded to the
Agricultural Officer (Cocoa), Boulogne Cocoa
Nurseries, St. Andrew's on or before the 30th June,
1953.
4. Applications for rooted cocoa cuttings received
after the 30th June, 1953 will neither be acknow-
ledged nor considered.

5. Application forms are available at the Depart.
ment of Agriculture, all Agricultural and Cocoa
Stations and District Revenue Offices. Application
forms can also be obtained from all members of
/the extension staff of the Department of Agricul-
ture.
6. Rooted Cocoa Cuttings are delivered free of
-charge to the applicants at a point, as near as
possible to the site at which they are to be planted,
accessible at the time to the motor vehicle con-
veying the plants.
7. The conditions under which rooted cocoa cut-
tings will be issued are as follows:--
(i) The area selected by an applicant will be
inspected by an authorised officer, as soon
as possible after the receipt of the applica-
tion, for the purpose of determining the
suitability of the site in regard to altitude,
soil type, wind protection and other ecologi-
cal and environmental conditions. The
applicant will then be notified whether or
not the area is approved for planting.
(ii) If for stated reasons the area is declared to
be unsuitable for planting cocoa clones, no
allocation of plants will be made to the
applicant.
(iii) If the area is declared suitable, an authoris-
ed officer will inform the applicant what
minimum action is required of him by the
Department of Agriculture, in regard to
provision of ground shade, windbreaks, soil
conservation measures, soil preparation etc.
The Agricultural Department will render all
assistance, guidance and advice in this
connection.

Vacant Post of Chief Sanitary
Inspector.

APPLICATIONS are invited for filling the post
iA of Chief Sanitary Inspector, Grenada. The
post is pensionable and carries salary in the scale
$1,920 x $96-$2,400 plus a temporary cost of
living allowance at the rate of 20% of salary. The
officer will be required to keep a car for the
performance of his duties for which a travelling
allowance of $960 per annum is payable.
The officer will be required to supervise the
work of the Sanitation Department and will be
responsible to the Senior Medical Officer.

dicraft Teacher, Grand Roy Government School.
The selected candidate will be paid single Charge

Government of Dominica.

APPLICATIONS are invited for the post of
Colonial Accountant, Dominica. The duties
of the post, which is on the permanent and
pensionable establishment, will involve generally
assistance to the Financial Secretary in all aspects
of Treasury work. The person selected will be
required to deputise for the Financial Secretary as
need arises.
2. Applicants should have recognized qualifica-
tions and experience in accountancy.
3. Salary offered is in the scale $2,400 x $120-
$2,880 a year with cost of living allowance at the
rate of 20% of salary. It is expected that this
rate of salary will shortly be revised to conform
with the recommendations for similar posts of the
Salaries Revision Commissioner of the Windward
Islands.

Staff Tutor in Industrial Relations in the
Department of Extra-Mural Studies.
Salary 1,200 up to 1,350 per annum, accord-

Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedics. The duties
of the post will include clinical work in the
University College Hospital and instruction of
students working for the medical degree of the
University of London. The consolidated salary
scale is 1,300 x 50 1,800. The point of entry
in the scale in determined by qualifications and
experience. Child allowance is paid. Superan-
nuation is available is under F.S.S.U. arrangements.
Unfurnished accommodation is available at a rent
of 5% of basic salary. The successful applicant
