FUNCTIONS OF THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL
In accordance with the provisions of para. (3) of Article 4 of the Constitution of
the West Indies notice is hereby given that as from the 9th April, 1962 His Honour
the Deputy Governor-General has assumed the functions of the Govenor-General
during the absence of His Excellency the Governor-General in the United Kingdom.
ASSENT TO BILLS
It is hereby notified that on the 3rd April, 1962 His Excellency the Governor-
General assented to the following Bills passed by the Senate and the House of Rep-
resentatives for the following Acts of 1962:
The Supplementary Appropriation (1961 No. 3) Act, 1962
The Pensions (Prime Minister) Act, 1962

Mr. E. S. Gittens, O.B.E., has been appointed to act as Secretary to-the Cabinet
as from 2nd April, 1962, inclusive (vice Mr. F. A. Phillips, on leave for a special
assignment with the University College of The West Indies).
Mr. Gittens will also exercise a general supervision of the work of the Prime
Minister's Department as a consequence of the assignment of Mr. F. D. C. Williams,
C.M.G., to special duties.
2. Mr. V. C. Josse, M.B.E., Senior Assistant Secretary, has been authorised to
assume administrative responsibility for the Ministry of Natural Resources and
Agriculture as from 26th March, 1962, until further notice (vice Mr. C. J. Burgess
on secondment to the Government of Jamaica).
3. Mr. McW. Todman, acting Senior Assistant Secretary, has been authorised to
assume administrative responsibility for, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (vice
Mr. Gittens) with effect from 2nd April, 1962, until further notice.
