OBJECTS AND REASONS

The object of this Bill is to amend the Defence
Act, 1958, (Cap. 101) by substituting for the punishment of
confinement to barracks which a Commanding Officer is
empowered to award a soldier, the punishment of restriction
of privileges.

A Bill intituled


AN ACT to amend the Defence Act, 1958.
Be it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent
Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Senate
and the House of Representatives of The West Indies, and
by the authority of the same, as follows:-
Short title. 1. This Act may be cited as the Defence (Amend-
ment) Act, 1961, and shall be read as one with the Defence
cap. 101. Act, 1958, hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.
Amend- 2. Section 79 of the principal Act is hereby

"(iv) such restriction of privileges, for any
period not exceeding twenty-eight days
beginning with the day of the sentence,
as may be prescribed;" and
(b) in subsection (5), by substituting the words
"restriction of privileges" for the words
"confinement to barracks" appearing therein.

3. A soldier who, at the commencement of this Act,
is undergoing, or about to undergo, a punishment of con-
finement to barracks shall be dealt with until the completion
of the period for which such punishment was awarded as
if he had been awarded a punishment of restriction of
privileges.

THE PENSIONS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1961

ARRANGEMENT OF REGULATIONS

1. Citation.
2. Amendment of regulation 8.


His Excellency the Governor-General, in exercise of the
powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Pensions Act, 1958, Cap. 512,
and of all other powers him thereunto enabling and with the sanction of
the Secretary of State, hereby makes the following regulations:

Citation. 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Pensions (Amendment)
Regulations, 1961 and shall be read as one with the Pensions Regulations,
1958, hereinafter called the principal Regulations.

Amend- 2. Paragraph (1) of regulation 8 of the principal Regulations is

regulation expression "scheduled administration":
"scheduled administration" means-
(a) the Government of any territory, or any authority,
mentioned in the Schedule to these Regulations;
(b) the Government of Ceylon, in respect of any officer
appointed to service under that Government before the
4th day of February, 1948;
(c) the Government of Palestine, in respect of any officer
appointed to service under that Government before the
15th day of May, 1948;
(d) the Government of the Somali Republic in respect of any
officer appointed to service under the Government of the
Somaliland Protectorate before the 26th day of June,
1960; and
(e) the Government of Cyprus, in respect of any officer
appointed to service under that Government before the
16th day of August, 1960.".
