APPOINTMENTS TO WHITLEY COUNCIL


THE following persons have been appointed by the Federal Public Service Association of The West Indies to
serve on the Staff Side of the Whitley Council for the period ending on the 31st December, 1960 :-

THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION
THE SECRETARY OF THE ASSOCIATION

The Assistant Secretary of the Association will serve as Secretary to the Staff Side.

FEDERAL SUPREME COURT

CRIMINAL APPELLATE JURISDICTION
IT is hereby notified for general information that the Federal Supreme Court has in accordance with Article 83
of the Constitution of The West Indies and the Federal Supreme Court Regulations, 1958, assumed exclusive
jurisdiction relating to certain criminal matters determined by the Supreme Court of the Territories mentioned
below.

The jurisdiction conferred is as follows :-
(1) Appeals, reserved questions of law and cases stated arising out of convictions on indictment in the
superior court of a Territory (including the Supreme Court of the Windward Islands and Leeward
Islands)
(2) and appeals from certain orders made on appeal to such superior courts from inferior courts in a
criminal cause or matter.

This jurisdiction is conferred as from the date appearing opposite the name of each Territory.

FEDERAL SUPREME COURT

CRIMINAL APPELLATE JURISDICTION
IT is hereby notified for general information that the Federal Supreme Court has by virtue of section 3 of the
British Guiana (Appeals) Order in Council, 1957, (made by Her Majesty in Council), the Federal Supreme
Court (Appeals) Ordinance, 1958, (enacted by the Legislature of British Guiana), and the Federal Supreme
Court (Appeals) Ordinance, 1958, (Commencement) Order, 1959, of British Guiana, assumed as from the 18th
day of November, 1959, exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine appeals, cases stated and questions of law
reserved arising out of convictions on indictment and appeals from certain orders of the Full Court of the
Supreme Court of British Guiana made on appeal from an inferior court in a criminal cause or matter.

the Virgin Islands (Appeals) Order in Council, 1957, (made by Her Majesty in Council) and the Federal
Supreme Court (Virgin Islands Appeals) Act, 1958, (passed by the Legislature of The West Indies) assumed as
from the 11th day of February, 1960, exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine appeals, reserved questions
of law and cases stated arising out of convictions on indictment of any superior court of the colony of the Virgin
Islands, and appeals from certain orders made on appeal to any such superior court from an inferior court in a
criminal cause or matter.
