later than 31st July each year. When
any tax or any part thereof remains
unpaid at the expiration of the above
mentioned date the person liable to
pay the same shall in every case pay
an additional amount of 2J% on the

shillings per acre or any part thereof.

Hurricane Precautions, 1 66 2.


1. At the beginning of the Hurricane Season the public are advised to take precautions.
to safeguard their homes and other property in the event of a storm. During a hurricane the
central electricity supply will be turned off, and every household should therefore be provided with
a hurricane lautern or a flash light (or preferably with both) which should be checked regularly
and !:ept in working order throughout the hurricane season.
2. Owners of barometers should take readings daily at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Any change lower than the usual diurnal one of 0-10 inch should be regarded with suspicion.
3. The masters or agen s of vessels if in doubt should communicate with the Harbour
Master for information.
4. When barring up a house, on indication of bad weather, begin with the side facing
the direction of the prevailing wind, which varies from North West to North East. Should the
center( of a storm pass over the island there will be a short period of cai:; during which the
Northern side of lhe building could! he opened up and the Sou thern a, d Westerly sides closed.
