Controlled prices for the sale
of Animals to Butchers.
As a result of the maximum prices
placed upon the sale of meat, butch-
ers have represented to Government
that their profit margin have been
considerably reduced on account of
the fact that they are obliged to pur-
chase animals from peasants at high
prices that are not subject to control.
The butchers fear that they will not
be able to continue their trade under
the present conditions.
2. The Government has therefore
given careful consideration to the
establishment of controlled prices for
the sale of animals based on the
method practised in Barbuda and by
large producers of livestock in Anti-
gua, that is:-
(a) the animal is first slaughtered
and the head. feet, slin and
entrails and removed; and
(b) the carcase is then weighed
and payment made to the
producer (seller) according
to the weight at a fixed kill-
out rate per pound.

3. It is propos d that the prices to
be paid for cattle for slaughtering
shall be as follows:-
(a) For cattle up to 300 Ibs
weight carcasee) 50 cents per
lb.

4. The butcihr will pay th- sel-
ler of the animal a down
payment representing I of
the estimated carcase weight
value on receipt of the
animal. The Butcher will
slaughter the animal and pay
the seller the balance and,. in
any event, not later than 3
days after receiving thm
animal.

5. A Government officer will
check record and certify the carcase
weight of cattle slaughtered.
