AGRICULTURAL OFFICER
(EXTENSION)

Department of Agriculture, St. Vincent.

ably qualified candidates for appoint-
ment to the post of Agricultural Offi-
cer (Extension), Department of
Agriculture, St. Vincent, particulars

Appointment.
The post is pensionable, hut the
:appointment will be on a contravtural
basis or on secondment, for u period
-of 2 years in the first instance The

seconded officer will be preserved.

Duties.
The duties of the officer will be
those assigned to him by the Superin-
tendent of Agriculture to whom he
will be directly responsible. Such
-duties will include the direction of
Agricultural Extension and Soil Con-
aservation programmes, as well as
general work of an administrative
nature,

Qualifications.
r The minimum qnalificati,.n re-
.quired is the Diploma of the Imperial
College of Tropical Agriculture or an
equivalentt ilegree, with experience in
Tropical Agriculture. General ad-
ministrative experience and know-
ledge of extension work would be
advantageous.

Salary.
The salary is in the scale $3,360x
120-4,320, plus a pay addition of
220% of salary.


Allowances.
Travelling and Subsistence Allow-
ances are payable in accordance with
local regulations, in respect of ap-
proved travel on duty.

Quarters,
Quarters are not provided.

Passages.
Free passages to St. Vincent will be
provided on first appointment for the
oilicer, his wife and cliilren, not
exceeding five persons in all; Chil-
dren to be ontler 18 years of age, un-
married and dependent on the officer.
In the ca.e of a contract appointment
or appointment on secondment free
passages will be provided on the
satisfactory termination of the con-

Leave and Leave Passages.
Vacation leave on full salary will
be granted in accordance with local
leave regulations. In the case of a

THE PENSIONS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1956, DATED
NOVEJMBER 13 11956, MADE BY 'THIE OVERNOR-IN-COUNCIL
WITH TIE SANCTION OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE UNDER
THE PROVISIONS OF SUJSECTION (2) OF SECTION 3 OF THE
PENSIONS ACT, 1947 (No. 12/1947).


1. Citation. These Regulations may be cited as the
Pensions (Amendment) Reg:lations, 1956, and shall be read
as one with the Pensions Regulationu, 1947, contained in the
First Schedule to the Pensions Act, 1947, as amended, here-
inafter called the Principal li.giilatiii, i.
2. Amendment of Regulation 9 (2) (a) of
the Principal Regulations. Sub-paragraph (a) of
paragraph (2) of regulation 9 of the Principal Regulations is
hereby amended by the insertion of the words "or lesser
period" between the words "years and precedingng.
3. Substitution of Regulation 18 of the Prin-
cipal Regulations. The following regulation shall be
substituted for regulation 18 of the Principal Regulations:-
"18. EmToluments to be taken for com-
puting Pensi -r or Gratuity. (1) For the purpose
of Cr.lniritin_' the amount of the pension or gratuity of
an officer who has had a period of not less than three
years' pensionable service before his retirement-
(a) in the case of an officer who has held the
same office for a period of three years immediately
preceding the date of his retirement, the full
annual pensionable emoluments enjoyed by him at
that date in respect of that office shall be taken;
(b) in the case of an officer who at any time
during such period of three years has been transferred
V from one office to another, but whose pensionable
. 7'; / emoluments have not been changed by reason of
such transfer or transfers, otherwise than by the
such trnserortrn.s









grant of any scale increment, the full annual pension-
ble emoluments enjoyed by him at the date of his
retirement in respect of the office then held by him
shall be taken;
(c) in other cases one third of the aggregate
pensionable emoluments enjoyed by the officer in
respect of his service during the three years of his
service immediately preceding the date of his retire-
ment shall be taken:
Provided that-
(i) if such one third is less than the highest
annual pensionable emoluments enjoyed by
him at the date of any transfer within such
period of three years those annual pensionable
emoluments shall be taken; and
(ii) if such one third is less than the annual
pensionable emoluments which would have
been enjoyed by him at the date of his retire-
ment, if he had continued to hold any office
from which he has been transferred at any
time during such period of three years, and
had received all scale increments which, in
the opinion of the Governor, would have
been granted to him, the annual pensionable
emoluments which would have been so
enjoyed shall be taken.

(2) For the purpose of determining under paragraph(l) of
this regulation the pensionable emoluments that an officer has
enjoyed or would have enjoyed, as the case may be, he shall be
deemed-
(a) to have been on duty on full pensionable emolu-
ments throughout the period of three years immediately
preceding the date of his retirement; and
(b) to have enjoyed the benefit of any increase due
to a revision of salaries in the pensionable emoluments
of any office held by him as if such increase had been
payable throughout such period of three years.
(3) For the purpose of computing the amount of pension
or gratuity of an officer who has had a period of less than three
years' pensionable service before his retirement-









(a) the average annual pensionable emoluments
enjoyed by him during such period shall be taken;
(b) he shall be deemed to have been on duty on
full pensionable emoluments throughout such period;
and
(c) he shall be deemed to have enjoyed the
benefit of any increase due to a revision of salaries
in the pensionable emoluments of any office held by
him as if such increase had been payable throughout
such period.
(4) The estimated value of free quarters in respect of
service in the Colony shall be calculated at the rate of one-sixth
of the actual salary of the office."

1. Citation, This Order may be cited as the Pioneer
Industries (Aerated Water Manufactures) Order, 1957.

2. Declaration of Pioneer Manufactures.
The persons named in the Schedule hereto are hereby declared
to be pioneer manufacturers for the purposes of the Encourage-
ment of Industries Ordinance, 1953, in relation to the
manufacture of aerated waters by the Pioneer Industries
(Manufacture of Aerated Waters) Order, 1957 (S.R. & 0.
1957, No. 13) declared to be a pioneer industry for the
purposes of the Encouragement of Industries Ordinance, 1957,
with effect from the 9th day of May, 1957.

July, 1957.
