laid before His Excellency the Governor by the

the Swiqg Buidge ou the Causeway to enable the
Caretaker to perform efficiently the duties required

BARBADOS, Augnst 30.-The weather, intensely
hot, has been most favorable throughout. the month
for the growing crops, especially for the cane crop,

We have to note the arrival in the Royal Mail
Steamer on the 18th instant, of Mr. Win. Robinson,
C.M.G., the new Lieut.-Governor of the Windward
Islands, and Administrator of Barbados. Arrange-
ments for His Excellenicy's reception bad been made
by the Legislature and representatives of the two
Houses appointed to wait on him on his arrival, and
the Military Guards of Honor, &.c., had been pro-
vided a couple of days before, but the steamer came
to anchor at daybreak ; and the Governor preferred
landing privately a couple of hours after. At 11 a.
ni. on the same day His Excellency made his first
official appearance at the Public Buildings where he
took the oaths of office in the Council Chamber, in
the presence of the members of the Legislature,
and the heads of the Civil and Military departments.
The oath was administered by His Honor the Chief
Justice, after which, Major-General Gamble, C.B.,
the late Administrator, presented the several Heads
of Departments to His Excellency.

antine will be enforced until further notice against

been received of the prevalence of yellow fever at

Barbados Post Office.-A lengthy report of a com-
miigsion appointed by the Governor to enquire into
the Postal Department has been laid before the Le-
gislature. The Commissioners recommend (1) the
transfer of the Postmnster to a less onerous office ;
(2) the abolishing of Receiving Houses. and the use
of Pillar Boxes, only involving 16 4 additional ex-
pense :and providing 1u6 instead of 4 places for
the deposit of letters; (3) the use of two-wheeled
carts -to carry one person with box room fort the
mails, saving 118 10/ in mail transport and (acili-
tating cheap and efficient collections from pillar
