Very truly and'respectlilly yours,

To the Editor ofthe Royal Gatt.lle.
DEAR MR. ErnroR,-I suppose that you, as well
as your readers generally, would like to kunw how I
the Tableaux and Recitation performances, caine off
in St. George's on the evenings of Thursday and
Friday last., knowing it was got up by our young
ladies and gentlemen under the supervision of Mr.
J. W. Huns, who, though almost a stranger among
us, has gainedthe good-will of the whole communui-
ty. No expense was sparedsin getting the affair
up, and all parties concerned must have been grati-
fied at its immense success. R. C. MeCallan, Esqj.,
loaned his very fine stores for the occasion, and the
arrangement was excellent. The rooms weie
crowded the first night, notwithstanding the rain,
and the consequent the great demand for carriages,
mackintoches and rubbers. A great number of
military officers were present. Almost every
scene had to be gone through a second time-the
plaudets and encores of the audience demanding it.
The fine string Band of the 46th was in attendance.
Bouquets, innumerable, were thrown on the stage I
from every direction. One poor applauder got so
excited when Britannia. who looked very faso.-iuat-
ing came on the stage in the final piece for the
evening-that in his anxiety to throw hl:er a splen-
did bouquet having inscribed his name on a caid
attached with a pin--the pin, when he atterapted to
throw the bouquet with great force, caught in his
finger and caused him such pain that he rather
yelled out the name Britannia than pronouncing it
in a tone of great admiration, as intended. Further
the bouquet instead of taking the direction intended,
struck one of the musicians on the side of his head,
which caused nimuch merriment at th- expense of the
excited admirer. The Boutquet however, eventually
reached its intended destination.
The attendance on the .e'.-ond night Wa-s good but
was doubtless lessened by the couti',ned untavor-
able weather.
I wish we couln induce the Hamilrouniajs to in-
vite the performers on tle occasion ab, alludel
to, to viMit Hamilton and give a performance there.
I feel assured it would draw a full house and afford
much amusement.
Wishing them every success iu' their next at-
tempt, I remain, yours,

St. Georges, February 9, 1ISS0.

At a meeting of this Society held on the 5th Janu-

London, a paper upon The Relision of the Druids"
was read by Mr. J. E. Howard, F R.S., in which
he examined the subject, arnd c--..vpii-d th,- relici,:n

terwards took place. From a statement made at
the commencement of the evening by Captain F.
Petrie, the honorary secretary, it appears that since
1871, when the Sor-,iety scarcely numbered two hun-
