Great Prosperity Under Prohibition

'
Bartow, Florida, September 27th, 1907 .
.
To All Whom' This May Concern: ,

: e This is to testify to the fad that Polk County has never known such general prosperity as she
; has enjoyed the last few years under prohibition. Every part of the county has grown and developed -
'}':: more in the last two years than in any y five years during the time saloons were licensed in
f the county. In the last several years real estate in Bartow, Fort Meade, Lakeland, Winter Haven,
Auburndale and every other sedion of the county has increased very greatly in value, and the fad
; being so well advertised that we have no saloons-thereby securing law, order and sobrietybringsmany
tourists to our county who never stopped with us in former years,'as is evidenced by the fad
r that Florence Villa, the largest tourist hotel in the county has found it necessary to quadruple its
:}. capacity in the last four years, and still }js too small for its patronage.
I( The rapid and continued increase in business and commercial interests generally under prohibi-
; < tion is evidenced by the steady increase in bank deposits in Bartow which, as stated by the bank
; officials, has been an average'increase approximating 42 per cent per annum for the la&fifteen years .
, The increase in the railroad company's business at Bartow was about 85 per cent. per annum for the ,
last two years, and, the same conditions exist all over Polk Co. We have had no saloons since 1887E.

This is to certify that the prosperity and progress of the business interest of Polk County udder Prohibition is.shown
i '/ beyond the possibility of doubt by the uniform and steady increase in bank deposits in Bartow for the laSt fifteen years. A
s .1' few figures from the bank books show as follows: January 1st, 1892 deposits were$58,351;January 1895* $88 318-;January
: 1900, $118,102;Jan. 1905,$219,989; Jan. 1907,$428,047, being an average increase of 42 per ct. per annum'for 15 years. '
