AT THE CHURCHES SUNDAY

Religious services were held in all
the churches yesterday. They were
well attended and the minutes gaWve
their coagnsegsatlpas d, wholesome
sermon. Rev. Barbett was received
with unusual cordiality by his conkre-
gation and they showed by their
greeting the pleasure It gve them to
have him with them for another year,
he having Just returned 0r1m the an-
nual conference at Miami.
At the Episcopal chulr' besides
the excellent sermon by Rector G. H.
Harrison. added Interest was expres-
ed in the christening of the rector's
young son, George Hendree Harrison,
Jr Mrs. H. 8. Sott, Mrs. Harrlson'u
mother and Mrs. M. M. Smith, of
Griffin, Ga.. an aunt of Mrs. Hardi-
.on, were godmothers to the child&
and Messrs. George H. Ford mad
dtephen Jewett stood an godfathers.
Mr. E. J. Mills-Prtee assisted theO rc-"
tor in the interesting and solemn-
ceremony of christening his little son
and dedicating him to Christ. The
singing by the surpliced choir was
good.

MRS. SISTRUNK'S RECEPTION

Mrs. S. T. Sietrunk's reception Sat-
urday aftenroon tendered In honor of
Mrs. I. V. Stevens,. of Shawnee. Okla.
wax one of the really delightful social
events of the season. There was
nothing stiff or formal about It. The
holiday glow of cordiality and socia-
bility seemed to palsate through ev-
ery heart and the faces of those pres-
ent were wreathed in good will' and
eailen.
That we may not exhaust out store
of adjectives we will here ray that the
honoree was gowned in her weddlng
dress which she wore last April when
married In this city, as looked as
sweet and graclos, for which she has
always been noted, as It her matPre.
The charming hostess wad radiant in
facial expression and garments, as
were the season's brides, Mrs. Harvey
Ilark, Mrs. B. 8. Weathers, of Tampa,
Mrs. John H. Taylor and Mrs. C. H.
IAoyd, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Weathers and
Mrs. Taylor assisting Mrs. SistItrak
in receiving.
Misses Annie Sharpe and Esther
Weathers served punch. Mrs. E. T.
Helvenston invited the guests into the
hall. where Mrs. C. H. Lloyd received
them. Mrs. Will Hocker. Mrs. I. LL
Carney and Mrs. D. 3. Melver assist-
ed In the social functions of the hour.
The house was elaboratel decorat-
ed in frosted cedar, and here and there
in the decorations were little snow
men. The lights were shaded In red
and red and holly sad polneetti blos-
soms added a beautiful color to the
decorations.
LlTtle Miss Virgina Sistrunk, the
pretty daughter of the hostess, and
Miss Martha Kate Rents pleased the
mints, etc.. and a salad course, fol-
lowed by tea, was served.
The guests passed through the ll-
brary .in leaving, and were there Te-
cewed by Mism ~ Ofe Bullock, Annie
Atkinson. Bessie MacKay. amnos
Anderson and Betty Melver. They
were all very atalehl pnd, attractive-
ly gowned. Miss Illian Andenon
gave to each guest a pretty blotter aa
a souvenir of the occasion. Attached
thereto was a New%'e 'Irse mad
the best wishes of th season.
A few of the yug men and the
heusbands of the Wteig married ladles
added a dash of novelty to the social
gathering. All in all. Mrs. SitIunk's
reeeptlon was a deftghtful affair and
the pleasant memories It will recall
will lasit a lifetime In the minds of
the participants.

Mrs. H. W. Long of Martel, recelv-
ed a telegram Christmas morning,
calling her to Jacksonville to attend
the bedside of her sister, Mrs. L. D. 8.
Carry, who wa thought to be dying,
Mrs. Long found her slightly better,
but at best she can live fot only a

few days. Mrs. Curry is 71 year of
age and has been a resident of Jack-
sonville for many years and Is the
widow of a well known Confederate
.oldtIer. She is much older than Mrs.
long and upon the death of the moth-
er. took her part and raised the young
later. Mrs. Long,

The placard in the Munroe &
I'hambliss Bank6 window, giving the
name of the winner of the $26 prise
and the exhibit of corn that won. Is
attracting a great deal of attention.
John Gist, of McIntosh, aged 1., was
the fortunate youth. The corn on
display is in a basket and every
passer by looks at It and says, "Hard
ti beat."

The Star hears with 'sincere regret
that Editor A. P. Jordan, of the Punta
Gorda Herald, who spent month at
lastman, Ga., returned home last
week, receiving little or no benefit
from his trip and still subject to the
fevers that have been afflicting him
