Bridge to be Built to Public

Library Will Make it
More Accessible.
The fact that a concrete bridge is
o be built this summer connecting
hecity island with the mainland in
Drder to provide a more convenient

neans of communication with the
public library, brings forward again -
he improvement of the island,
which is a matter that has been ag-
tated more than once, but for some
reason nothing has been accom- *
polished, beyond the clearing up of
he island some two years ago.
Of course the beautifying and im-
proving of this land is susceptible
of a wide range, from making it a
nere rustic park to covering it with
ill the resort attractions of a mina-
ture Coney Island, as funds and
ancy dictated, but there is no doubt
that the island could at a very
moderate cost be made a very at-
tractive spot, which would appeal to
nany of our northern visitors as a
ounging and strolling place and a
vantage point from which to obtain
a panoramic view of Beach street.
It seems that the island might at
east be kept clean of underbrush
md trash and laid out in walks and
rustic resting places, with a neat
band stand where concerts could be
given.
The island is prominently before
our eyes at all times and while we
may grow accustomed to its barren
and desolate appearance how much
better would it be to have it trans-
formed into an attractive spot
which would at once appeal not only I
to residents but to every visitor to
the city. b
Alderman E.J. Mills has been
deeply interested in this matter for
some time past and there are others
who would be glad to fourth, r
the cause in any way they could if
the citizens would show sufficient
-i
interest in the move to give them
proper and sufficient support.

Punch Tickets Will Soon Be Good Will Hold Twenty-Second Annual

Over Three Daytona Bridges
and Port Orange Bridge.
Elsewhere appears an advertise-
- ment announcing that union punch
tickets may soon be purchased
which will be honored over the Pen-
insula Bridge, Central Bridge,
South Bridge and Port Orange
Bridge. You pay just as much as
you ever did, the only convenience
to you is that instead of purchasing
a twenty-five cent ticket over each
bridge you now purchase one for
$1. )0, which will be honored over
any of the four bridges. The
bridge companies say that they took
the matter up with the Florida East
Coast Ry., and endeavored to get
that corporation to come into the
deal, but the East Coast officials
could not see it that way.
This change cannot be called a
c neession on the part of the bridge
companies as no material benefit is
tin reby derived by the public. It
looks very much like an act on the
pirt of the bridge companies to
make the public believe it is getting
something.
The County Commissioners will
hold a special meeting at the Armory
next Friday afternoon when the
long-discussed question of bridge
tolls will be taken up and adjusted.
It hehloves everyone interested to
be present at that time and be heard.

Willin-Matthews.

A pretty wedding occurred Wed-
nesday niight on West Volusia
avenue, when Miss Bertha May
Matthews and Lutler C. Willin were
united in marriage at the home of
the bride's mother, Mrs. C. H. Pelle-
cier, Rev D. II. lRutter, of the First
M. E. Church, officiating.
The wedding took place at 8:00)
o'clock in the parlor of the reence,
-which was beautifully orated
with ferns and roses, the ride car-
rying a magnificent boqilt of pink
dutchess roses. After the ceremony
the relatives and a few intimate
friends present repaired to the
dining room, which was lavishly
decorated with pansies and nastur-
tiums, and partook of the refresh-
ments there provided.
Tho bride is a Daytona girl,
having grown to womanhood in this
city, while the groom, whose home
is in ialtimore, Md., has many
friends here having been for some
time assisting Capt. L. E. Ellen-
wood on the Cherokee and being
now in charge of the ferry boat,
Yankee Doodle.
After next Monday the young
couple will be at home in the Bab-
inaton cottage on Bay street.

Daytona Wins From DeLand.
The ball game Thursday after-
noon between DeLand and the home
team was a good one throughout,
the teams being very evenly match-
ed, and resulted in a score of I to 0
in favor of Daytona, the only run of
the game being made in the first
inning.
Next Thursday the St. Augustine
team will probably be here to try
the mettle of the Daytona boys and
this game should attract a large
crowd, as has always been the case
in the past, as they put up a strong
fight and Daytona is hard to beat.
A large attendance will gladden the
heart of the management also, as
the expense of entertaining is greater
in this case, owing to the visitors
having to remain over night.
