VOLUSIA COUNTY LANDS.

Inclement Weather Prohibited Thirty-Five Thousand Acres Sold

People From Appearing Be-
fore the Commissioners.
Several automobile loads of resi-
dents of Daytona had intended ap- A
hearing before the meeting of the n
County Commissioners at DeLand a
Monday evening to urge that the V
tolls over the Central and South r
Bri Iges be reduced, but the inclem-
ent weather prohibited the trip. I
As the rates are now the comr-
panies are paying big dividends,
besides the salaries paid to officers 1
and directors. The general public 1
is quite familiar with the bridge i
proposition and the people of this c
side of the county feel that the
SCounty Commissioners (who by the
way are the ones that have authority
to fix tolls) should give them relief I
to the extent of reducing the tolls
All that is asked is eminently fair,
as no one desires the tolls to be re-
duced to such an extent as to make i
the dividends anything but reason- i
able.
The "free bridge" talk is still in 1
the air and perhaps in a year or so
such a thing will be a reality. In the
meantime, however, let the tolls be
made reasonable.
Hon. James E. Alexander wired
to Daytona Monday that the com-
mittee to which had been referred
lis bill providing for an appropria-
tion to build a bridge across the
Halifax river at or near Daytona had
reported favorably, but that Repre-
sentative Thornton was opposing
the bill On receipt of the telegram
a petition addressed to Representa-
tive Thornton; asking him to use
all honorable means to secure the
passage of the bill, was circulated
and generally signed.
From some of the propositions
nnder consideration relief of some
kind will ultimately come.

Resolutions of School Board.
At the last meeting of the County
School Board the following resolu-
tions were adopted:
Resolved-That no person shall
be eligible to a position in the
schools of this county, employing
four or more teachers, who has not
had at least sixteen months success-
ful experience as a teacher in the
publicschools or eight months ex-
perience in teaching and eight
months normal training in a credit-
able normal school; provided, that
this resolution shall not apply to
any one now teaching in such
school.
As the trustees are the duly
elected representatives of the people
in all local school matters, and. are
supposed to know local conditions
wbtter than the Board can know
the Ip the Ioard passed a resolution
that all petitions shall be submitted
to the local trustees, and they shall
make recommendations to the School
Board, as the law provides.
Supt. Riotts was instructed to ar-
range for a meeting of a committee
of high school teachers for the pur-
pose of recommending high school
text books to be used in all the high
schools of Volusia county.

35,000 acres of land from the E. W

in Volusia county.
The tract is bounded on the \s

The east line of this property is just
seven miles west of the town of New

Florida East Coast railway, and the
Titusville-San ford branch is the
southern boundary of the land.
The company has already cin
menced to advertise andl about .1.(0()
acres of the land has been sold.
The tract has been subdivided into
ten and twanty-acre tracts and
about May 15 the first body of
homeseekers will arrive on the
grounds to claim their purchases.
M. Leidersdorf, of Chicago, has
been appointed resident manager
and will make his headquarters at
New Smyrna until the administer -

The sale of this piopert-v opens

THE DAYTONA BALL TEAM

MWS FROM COCOA TEAK.

The first ball game of the season
played Thursday afternoon between
the Cocoa team and the Daytona
club was a good one-interesting
from start to finish. It was really
a pitcher's battle, Foltz of the home
team and Tucker, of Eau Gallie,
who pitched for the Cocoa boys, be-
ing very evenly matched, which is
evidenced by the fact that Foltz
struck out 13 men and Tucker 12.
The game resulted in a score of
4 to 0 in favor of the Daytona club.
There was a fair crowd present, but
not such as might be expected to
turn out to the opening game of the
season.

A large boat was burned north of
Ormond yesterday anl it is rumored
that it was a dredge boat.

Mrs. Carrie Lockwood left Thurs-

If people could only understand that
Catarrh isan internal scrofula- that noth-
ing applied externally does much good-
they wouldn't need to be warned so often
about this fatal disease, which, when ne-
glected, invariably ends up in Consump-
tion, at the cost of millions of lives every
year. Yet Catarrh is easily cured if the
right treatment is employed.
Catarrh is caused by germs in the blood
which circulate throughout the entire sys-
tem. External remedies give but tempo-
rary ease. Although the effects are often
seen in the form of pimples, rash, eczema
or dry scaly skin, the trouble is internal,
and can never be cured by external reme-
dies.
The only way to cure Catarrh is by em-
ploying a medicine which is absorbed and
carried by the blood to all parts of the sys-
tem, so that the mucous membrane, or
internal lining of the body is thoroughly
medicated, soothed, disinfected of germ
matter, and the soreness healed.
We have a remedy prepared from the
prescription of a physician who for thirty
years studied and made Catarrh a specialty
and whose record of success was a cure in
every case where his treatment was fol-
lowed as prescribed. That remedy is
Rexall Mucu-Tone. We are so positive
that it will cure Catarrh in all its various
forms, whether acute or chronic, that we
promise to return every penny paid us for
the medicine in every case where it fails
to cure or for any reason does not satisfy
the user.
We want you to try Rexall Mucu-Tone
on our recommendation and guarantee.
We are right here where you live, and you
do not contract any obligation or risk
when you try Rexall Mucu-Tone on our
guarantee. We have Rexall Mucu-Tone
in two sizes. The prices are Soc. and St.
Very often the Soc. size effects a cure.
Of course, in chronic cases a longer treat-
ment is necessary. The average in suck
instances is threa.oo bottles.

His End Was Peaceful an Came
Unexpectedly.-Body Will
Be Taken North.
Thestartling news was telephoned
to the Gazette-News early yesterday
morning that the Hon T. Ewing
Miller had died suddenly in his
room at Schmidt's Hotel.
Mr. Miller had not been feeling
well for some days but was around
as usual and seemed to be improv-
ing. Not responding to the break-
fast bell, Mr Schmidt knocked at
his door a little before seven o'clock
and was answered. A half hour
later he knocked again and getting
no response entered his room
through the side door and found
him dead, though his body was still
warm. Doctor Klock was at once
called and stated that he had only
been dead a few moments,' and also
stated that his death was probably
caused by heart failure
The remains will be shipped to
Columbus, Ohio, today for inter-
ment. The deceased had been
coming to Daytona for years and
was well and favorably known by
all. His home was at Columhbus,
Ohio. Ilis son, Ira H. Miller, and
wife were with himn and will go
north with the body.
