1. Location: ---4

Moore Haven is in South Florida, 100 miles northwest of Miami, 70 miles west
of West Palm Beach, and 58 miles northeast of Fort iiyers. It is on Lake
Okeechobee, The elevation is from eight to 22 feet.

2. Transportation:

Florida Highway 25 passes through Moore Haven, Florida Highway 78 nearby. The
Atlantic Coast Line railroad provides rail service. Bus service is provided
by Glades Motor Lines. Air service is not available.

3. Population:

Glades County had a population of 2,281 in 1945. The population of Moore
Haven was about 599.

Moore Haven, named for an early settler, was incorporated in 1917. It was I
first town in the United States to have a woman mayor.

Agriculture, cattle raising, and commercial fishing are the main sources of
income. A sugar mill is to be established here in the near future.

Turkeys, deer, quail, squirrels, dove, and duck are found in
this section. There are unposted hunting grounds in the vicinity.
There are-several hunting lodges in the northern part of the
county on the shore of Lake Chi;e.o,:-. Huntin. guides are
not available.

10. Fishing:

Bass, perch, and other fresh water fish are caught in Lake
Okeechobee. Tompkins Fishing Camp is within the city limits.
Fishing guides and charter fishing boats are not available.

11. Churches:

Methodist, Baptist, and-Church of God have services in Moore Eaven.

A new guest home is to be opened this fall by Mr. L. M. Lilly.
This will be a very modern ouest home, with accommodations for
15 to 20 persons.
