Smils southeast of Fort lyers. It is on Chokoloskee Bay and near
the uulf of exico. The elevation is four feet.
Lverolades is on Florida Highwv-; 29, about four miles from U. S.
high,.ay 94. (Tamiaii Trail). The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
proviuea rail service. Lvs service is provided d by Tamiami Trailvays.
Air service is not available.

Everglades was 629.

earth mounds in the interior. It w-s in this territory that the Indians

county. It is a renowned beauty spot.
6. Major Sources of Income:
Collier County was the scene of the first discovery of oil in Florida,
and at present there are several flowing oil wells near Sunniland.
Lumbering, truck farming, commercial fishing ranching, tourist, and oil
are important industries in Collier County. Everglades has long been a
favorite spot for sport fishermen, enjoying a nation-wide reputation, and
is the westernn gateway to the Lverglades national fark.

Duri-n the winter season, entertainment is arranged by the Rod and Gun Club.

n golf course and bathing beach are available at Naples, 36 miles away.
9. Huntig :
This area is famous for hunting. .uail, wild turkeys, duck raccoons, deer,
bear, panther and wild cats are found in this section. It is approximately
five miles to unposted huntin, grounds. The Rod and Gun Club is a hunting
lode. accommodations are available for 75 persons. Rates are ;10 a day
and up, American plan. huntin. guides can be obtained at'the Rod and Gun
Tarpon, snapper, snook, mullet, redfish, trout, grouper, black fish, jack
fish, sheepshead, barracuda, mackeral, blue runner, kingfish, bonita and
pompano are caught ir Chokoloskee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The Rod and
Gun Club provides accommodations for fishermen. Fishing .uides can be
obtained at the Rod and Gun Club.
Lverglades has a non-denominational community church.
