PROGRAM

Information professionals in the Caribbean are the best of the best. And this
fact is evidenced in this 7th ACURILEANA Evening of Awards. With this
seventh edition, ACURIL is honored and pleased to recognize, distinguish
and make known to all, the excellent performance of institutions and
individuals in the information profession in the region.

This edition includes 4 sections:

Section A presents The ACURILEAN Awards for Institutional and Individual
Categories, which we have increased in number.

Section B introduces a new segment to the Awards, instituted by ACURIL,
Puerto Rico Chapter: Dr. Albertina Perez de Rosa Academic Excellence
Award Medal. This award will be bestowed to students in the two academic
programs in the field of library, information sciences and technologies in the
region.

Section C The ACURILEAN Stars is introduced this year in the ACURILEANA
Awards Program. With this action the Awards Committee pursues to
stimulate and stand out the excellent performance of colleagues in different
areas of endeavor in the information field. This year we excel the areas of
Information Literacy and Research and Publication.

Section D. The ACURILEANA MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE

The ACURLEANA MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE, instituted in 2003 in Puerto Rico,
is devoted to stand out the highest level of excellence in performance of
individuals in the information field in the Caribbean region. One is given to
the president that ends his/her term of office in ACURIL, and the other one
to the Caribbean Information Professional of the year.

We are highly honored and pleased to present the winners of the
ACURILEANA AWARDS 2007

The ACURIL PRESIDENT's AWARD 2007. Stephney Ferguson Library
Programs for Special Information Needs. To recognize and distinguish
a school, public or national library in the Caribbean, which has
demonstrated excellence of service providing a program to satisfy special
community information needs. This special ACURIL Award was established
by Jamaican Past President Stephney Ferguson in 2000, in her interest to

stimulate the development of information programs to special clienteles,
and the offering of innovative outreach programs to help build informed
communities in the region. ACURIL rejoices in naming this distinction The
Stephney Ferguson Library Programs for Special Information Needs Award.
Nature of the Award: A plaque and citation.

(Fondation Connaissance et Libertd -

Creativity in the Development of Reading Programs for Children
and/or Young Adults. The University of Puerto Rico Press Award. To
recognize and distinguish a school, public, or national library which has
developed and outstanding reading program for children and/or young
adults. Advocacy, innovation and creativity in the planning, development
and use of information and literature resources, geared to strengthen their
reading habits, to help develop a taste for reading literature, and to
stimulate their development as lifelong learners, will be key elements in the
consideration. Nature of the Award: A plaque, a special prize and citations.

To recognize and distinguish a school, academic, public or national library
for its innovative, creative and effective achievement in planning and
implementing a program or service with serial publications, using
information technologies, for the benefit of its clientele. Nature of the
Award: A plaque, a special prize and citations.

Innovative and Effective Information Services with the Application
of Information Technologies. The Thomson/Gale Group Award. To
recognize and distinguish a school, academic, public or national library for
its innovative, creative and effective achievement in planning and
implementing a program or service, for the benefit of its clientele, using

distinguish a school, academic, public or national library for its innovative,
creative and effective achievement in the planning and development of an
organization and retrieval of information automation program or service,
for the benefit of its clientele. Nature of the Award: A plaque with an annual
subscription and citations.
