PUBLIC LIBRARIES DIVISION

The Public Libraries Division Authority is responsible
for administering and coordinating a network of
Public Libraries, serving citizens throughout Trinidad
and Tobago. The aim of this Division is to provide
efficient and reliable access to information to the
public, using state of the art technology.

The Division also encourages the use of infoIrmaon
and promotes the reading habit. Operating out of its
headquarters in Port of Spain, this Division oversees
the Children's, Young Adult and Adult Libraries in
the National Library Building, the San Femando
Carnegie Free Library, nineteen (19) other Pubic
Libraries and three (3) Book Mobiles serving over 40
outlying areas.

HERITAGE LIBRARY DIVISION

The aim of the Heritage Library Division is to
acquire and preserve for posterity, all material
relevant to our heritage. The library recognizes a
responsibility to:
(i) Present the society to itself
(ii) Generate, initiate and facilitate important
research.
(iii) Explore and harness relatively under-exploited
sources of orally transmitted knowledge.

The primary function of the Heritage Library
Division is the collection, housing, preservation and
exploration of all that is written by, about or
emanates from Trinidad and Tobago.

EDUCATIONAL LIBRARY SERVICES
DIVISION

NALIS is responsible for the services and staff in
libraries in the education sector. These include the
School Libraries Division, the Rudranath Capildeo
Learning Resource Centre Library, the libraries at
the two teachers' training colleges: Valsayn and
Corinth, the library of the Ministry of Education
Headquarters, the Library of the Technical,
Vocational, Educational and Training Division of
the Ministry of Education, and libraries at
approximately 600 primary and secondary schools,

INFORMATION NETWORKS DIVISION

Information Networks Division provides technology.
for online information access and delivery
throughout NALIS.

It is also responsible for the NALIS website
(www.nalis.gov.tt), the Ibero American Digital
Library and the Virtual Health Library. All these
websites facilitate access to all aspects of
information from or about Trinidad and Tobago.
The Division is also responsible for coordinating the
Special Libraries in Government
Ministries and Departments.
