On Demand # 3

The FSSP is seeking expressions
of interest in developing a number of
courses dealing with various aspects
of farming systems research and
extension. These have been generally
delineated in the FSSP 1984 Work Plan
(see especially pages 23-26).

There are a number of courses
that are part of the academic
curricula of some of the FSSP Support
Entities. It is anticipated that
these will provide the basis for some
of the training courses that we wish
to have developed. Bi-lateral
contracts of many of the.SEs can
provide case study material to
supplement training materials. Many
of the International Agricultural
Research Centers have developed
training materials germaine to their
activities and areas of interest; the
same can be said for many of the
national research organizations.
There are various institutions and
organizations (such as USDA, USAID,
Peace Corps) that have developed
instructional materials for overseas
delivery. All of this goes to say
that there are existing resources that
need to be identified, can be adapted
and orchestrated to assist in the
development of FSSP training courses.

Development of any one course
will involve considerable synthesis.
It will bean intensive effort on the
part of the entity selected. It is
anticipated that this development of a
generic stock of farming
systems-related training materials
will coordinate well .with each other
and address the training mandate of
the FSSP. The project is committed to
this undertaking and invites the
participation of all or any part of
the SEs network.
Beginning June 4 expressions will
be accepted by telephone. Call James
C. Jones (or if not available, contact
Susan Poats or Dan Gait), FSSP
Training Coordinator at (904)392-2309.
