Content Advice:
Manis purchased this Deangle mask and costume after the wearer performed in it for a boys' initiation ceremony. Manis and his wife Rosemary donated it to the Harn Museum of Art in 1978.
General Note:
Eugene Manis was a horticulturalist, research scientist and USDA plant breeder for much of his career. His first professional job was as a planter for the Firestone Rubber Plantation in Harbel, Liberia from 1939 through 1941. These scrapbooks document the begining of his career.
