Twenty-one canola cultivars were tested at the North Florida

Research and Education Center, Quincy during the 1991-92 growing

season. The purpose of this test was to obtain information on

relative yield response of these cultivars to the North Florida

climate.

Fertilizer and pesticides were applied uniformly to all plots.

Nitrogen was applied at emergence as ammonium nitrate topdressing

at 50 lb N/acre and 100 Ib N/acre was topdressed on January 21,

1992. Fertilizer P and K were applied as 0-10-20 mix at 1000

Ib/acre broadcast preplant to supply 100 Ib of P205 and 200 lb of

K20/acre. One-half lb of boron per acre was broadcast preplant

also. Treflan was applied preplant for weed control. Furadan was

broadcast preplant at 40 lb/acre for nematode and insect control.

Plant population was determined in late November and

represents final population since there were no plants lost due to

winter kill. The winter of 1991-92 was relatively mild but not as

warm as in 1990-91. Crop growth was nearer normal in 1991-92 than

in 1990-91.

Cultivar identification, crop growth response and yield are

shown in the accompanying table. Several cultivars produced more

than 50 bushels per acre and yields ranged from 28 to 61 bu/acre.

The Isd 0.05 for yield is 7.985 bu/acre.
