ON WEANING WEIGHT' OF CALVES
l/
F. M. Peacock, W. G. Ki;k, E. M. Hcdges, and H. Koger-

This study was designed to evaluate the relative production of Brahman,

Shorthorn and their crosses when straightbred and when crossed under an

improved grass-clover forage system.

The mating systems were conducted during two phacss. During the first

five-year phase the Brahman, 3/4 Brahman-1/4 Shorthorn and one-hai ithe 1/2
Shorthorn-1/2 Brahman cows were bred to Brahman bulls while the Shorthorn,
3/4 Shorthorn-1/4 Brahman and one-half the 1/2 Shorthorn-1/2 Brahman were

bred to Shorthorn bulls. The breed of bull was reversed between herds during

the second five-year phase, with all calves being crossbreds.

Results of the study are given in the following table.
