TWO YEAR CERTIFICATE COURSE IN SOCIAL WORK
Applications are invited from qualified persons for enrolment
in a two-year course in Social Work, leading to a Certificate in So-
cial Work.
The Course is intended to train personnel for service in Social
Welfare Organizations, and in those branches of social work under-
taken by Governments and Voluntary Agencies. It will consist of
academic work in the University and practical work under super-
vision in field agencies.
The course is open to the following:
(a) Graduates of any recognized University;
(b) Candidates who have passed the Higher School Certificate
Examination or the General Certificate of Education in at
least two Principal or Advanced Level subjects;
(c) Candidates who have passed the School Certificate or its
equivalent with credits in English Language, Mathematics,
a foreign language and two other subjects, or the Ordinary
Level General Certificate in Education on those subjects;
(d) Candidates over 23 years of age who do not possess the
qualifications under (a), (b), or (c) may be accepted if judg-
ed by the Board of the Faculty to be otherwise adequately
qualified. .
(e) Every Candidate, irrespective of academic qualification,
must
(i) furnish character references testifying to their social and
educational suitability;
(ii) submit, along with their application forms, a brief person-
al statement of their reasons for wanting to do social work;
(iii) attend for interview with faculty members, or in the in-
stance of students applying from outside of Jamaica, with
persons nominated by the faculty.
Applicants who will be sponsored by Governments and Social
Welfare Agencies are preferred but those who are self sponsored
will be considered for entry.
For persons already possessing suitable academic qualifications
i.e. graduates who have done work in relevant subjects, the course
is available as a one-year course. Each application from graduates
to complete the two-year course in one year will be considered on
its own merit.
Applications in writing should be made to the Assistant Regis-
trar, Students Affairs, Admissions, at Mona, St. Augustine and
Cave Hill, and from Resident Tutors in territories without campus-
es before June 8, 1973.
