Degrc Course la Librarianship- Oct. 1973

The University invites applications for admission to the full-
time three-year degree course in Librarianship at the Mona Camp-
us. The course will cover work in Librarianship to the level of the
A.L.A. in Great Britain, as well as work in non-Library subjects, as
part of the normal programme of the Faculty of Arts and General
Studies.
Candidates for admission must satisfy the normal University
Matriculation Requirements, that is, they must satisfy the 'A' level
requirements or possess qualifications accepted as equivalent to
these as outlined in the University's regulations. For this purpose
applicants may have their qualifications assessed by the Matricula-
tion Board of the University. Preference will normally be given to
those candidates who have had practical experience of work in
libraries.
Full details of the courses offered are given in a prospectus avail-
able from the Department of Library Studies (P.O. Box 181, Mona,
Kingston 7).
As the number of places in the course is limited, all persons
interested in admission should apply. However, if they have al-
ready applied for admission this year, they should indicate this.
Tuition Fees:
The composite Tuition and Examination Fee will be:
J$60 for students from territories giving financial support
to the programme;
J$640 for students from other territories.
Further particulars may be obtained from the University.
Othet costs, living expenses, books etc.
Based on the present cost of living in a University Hall of Resi-
dence, the following estimates of the additional costs have been
made:
for Jamaicans: J$1,100 per year
for non-Jamaicans: J$1,200 per year
Further details of these costs are obtainable from the University.
With continued rises in the cost of living it is possible that these
estimates will need to be increased in the course of the next aca
demic year.
Closing date for Applications
The closing date for applications will be 31 May. Application
forms may be obtained from the Registrar, Student Affairs, Admis-
sions, at Mona, St. Augustine and Cave Hill, or from the Resident
tutors in territories without campuses.
'Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships for this programme will be
awarded through UNESCO. In addition applicants for this course
may be eligible for the other scholarships and bursaries adminis-
tered through the University.
Scholarship awards will be based on the results of the U.W.I.
Scholarship Examination, on other available examination per-
formances and on the recommendations of the Governments.
