P Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All Man-

year, I wish to instil in your hearts a
hope of peace and a promise of prosper.
ty in the coming year.
Peace and Prosperity is our g-al, and it
would seem that one is unattainable without the
other. To hope for a better life, which is our am.
S bitioa and_ pursuit- one blessed with the fruits
of prosperity, we must endeavour to sow the
kind of seed that will germinate and blossom
Only in a climate of peace.
A state of peace on earth can only be accom.
plished when there is the fulfilment of a condi-
tion that there must be a feeling of goodwill
among men, goodwill to all mankind. When we
rejoice each year- at Christmas time, our happi-
ness is founded on the firm belief that tidings of
great joy will come to ts because of the birth of
Christ. (Contd. on p.7)

when they arrived at Ma Titine s a
few days later, for stuck under the
front door was a note telling them
that she had flown to New York un-
expectedly after receiving a letter
from Eurilla. In the note Ma Titire
told them where her house-key could,
be found and that any one of them
could take care of the: house for h*.
"Well;" Baby exclaimed, "Titine:
not easy.. She only vamoose...jus.
"She had her.ticket sent to her

But Baby was really upset about:
Ma Titine's departure...
"She cood: come. an tell us wen. she
was leiavin", Baby pouted her lips.
."Maybe...we were not home .when she
did come?, Genelia said soothingly.
They dusted and swept the house,
put fresh curtains at the windows;
polished and cleanes until the place
fairly, sparkled. They even put up
Christmas decorations as though Mao
Titine was expected any minute,
"It will make de place look hap-

Genel-ia was. looking thoughtful.
Suddenly she exclaimed "Know what

Baby shook her head. "Wen you
tell me", she. replied truculently.
"I jus-t got an idea, We'll spend

of the World Council of. Churches,
home for Christmas with his wife to
visit his mo-ther, will preach :in the
Methodist Church,Boeeaau9-amSuun, 22nd.
Al APPRECIATION OF GUSTAVUS TIMOTHY
I must add something to all that
has been said about the passing of
that great soul, Gustavus Timothy,
whom I knew so well from my boyhood.
*It was good to hear from: Reverend
Neville Brodie:' s masterly funeral
oration in the Marigot Methodist
Church, that Timothy, well known as
, "Wright",was a great lover of books'.
I can substantiate this.
Every human being who loves reading
has more in: him than even his nearest
and best friends can fathom.
A native of Marigot, he strove in
'every way to speak,, write and work to
advance the interest of his village.
He was: among the first villagee Board
'Members in the early thirties when
the late Capt. G.F. Ashpite.l seeing
the -dildpidated state- of Marigot,
founded, that Board, the very first in
the island barring Roseau and Ports-
He threw himself ful.y into. our
task of repairing and building roads
and bridges --supplemented by a meagre
government :grant of 19.0.0. per anp
It.was a different Marigot, that
had a Child Welfare Clinij; to reduce
infant mortality; a Liiterary Club to
help youths understand th.t; the sup-
erior qualities of the'mind mean a
great deal in society;'a splendid set
of leaders whom I have' no space to
list, and a resident Medical Off'icer,
Methodist 'Ministers and a Head Teach-
er 'who all worked together for total
village improvement. A local Metho-
dist preacher till his death, he
preached with power, argued with-his
peers 'on theology, Church doctrine
He grieved over the Marigot of
the past ten years, and bore with
Christian fortitude the.destruction
of his home by fire. I visited him
the next morning; with' fire in his
eyes (as when an injustice is perpe-
trated)hoblurted out: 'Steve, the
Marigot police.never came here from
duty or from sympathy". -And he went
on "Man, this'' iia not like policemen
in:the old days".
Marigot, nay, Dominica hais lost a
great landmark. If you couldn't
always agree with Timothy, you were
bound to love, admire and respect him.
My family and I tender deepest con-
dolenco to his ailing wife, his sister,
his children and other relations. What
a blessing he lived! May his soul
rest in peace -- W.S, STEVENS

His. coming into the world brought
with it a message for mankind, to
form the basis for our joy and hap-
piness, and the Christian message
is a message of love which says
"Love thy neighbour as thyself for
the love of thee." This message
must, forever guide our way, not
only' this Christmas, but through-
out the years.ahead.
Sincerely, I hope that'the revel-
ations of the immediate regrettable
past have brought us to the aw aing
of a new understanding of ourselves,
and will lead us to' an era.of re-

I trust that it will be the good
fortune of 'each and eve one to enjcy,

holiday. I especially ask that we:
do all of us remember the orphans,
the poo axid-'the aged, those who are
-disheartened, discouraged and dis-

are infirm, and lonely. Bring some
joy into their lives this Christmas
by sharing with them some .of your
blessings.. which may even be a few
moments of your company.
