An exercise in translating Spanish
Five short examples of fines levied for minor crimes in St. Augustine, Fla., in 1790

Multas (febrero)

En 8 de febrero pag6 la multa Juan Saney diez y seis reales por haberlo
prendido la Guardia que se hallaba la noche anterior en la Puerta del
Baile, armando quimera.
En idem Juan Yarres otros diez y seis reales para lo mismo.

Multas Mayoo)

En 13 de mayo recibi de Don Santos Rodriguez escribiente de la
Secretaria de este Gobierno ocho reales por la multa pagada cierto
individuo para un Cerdo que se encontr6 en la Calle cuya cantidad no di
recibo.

Multas (junio)

En 8 de junio recibi del Regidor Don Miguel de Iznardy sesenta y cuatro
reales en plata fuerte por la multa que exigi6 al Panadero Pablo Vila por
haberle encontrado el pan mal acondicionado.

Multas (septiembre)

En 23 de idem recibi del Escribano del Gobierno doce reales para una
Cochina que cogi6 en la Calle la Guardia del Vivas que por no haber
parecido su Dueio se vendi6 en veinte y cuatro reales segQn expreso el
citado escribano, y se le pagaron los otros doce a dicha Guardia de cuya
cantidad no di recibo.
