INTRODUCTION

An often asked question is, "What fungicide will control this disease on my ornamental?" This
seemingly simple question requires a rather lengthy answer. This publication attempts to compile all
fungicides and/or bactericides, for use on ornamentals, that are distributed within the State of
Florida. Pesticides listed in the following text have been compiled from three sources: The USDA
compilation of Registered Uses of Fungicides and Nematicides June, 1983, the Complete list of
Registrants and Brands of Pesticides Registered as of June, 1983 (Fl. Dept. of Agriculture and
Consumer Services) and available pesticide labels from the manufacturers.

The text is divided into two sections. The first, entitled "Fungicides with Broad Crop
Clearance," lists a number of broad ornamental categories (ie. Flowers, Trees etc.) that appear on
pesticide labels. Specific diseases are listed for each category with the respective control materials.
Pesticides are listed by their common chemical name as well as trade names where available. Trade
names are listed with their percent active ingredients and are listed only when labels reflect specific
ornamental-disease combinations. An asterisk (*) preceding the common pesticide name indicates a
State of Florida (24-C) label clearance for the adjacent specific trade name. The presence of a double
asterisk (**) in place of a trade name indicates the ornamental-disease use is present in the "USDA
Compilation of Registered Uses of Fungicides and Nematicides June, 1983." However, no specific
pesticide brand could be found with this use on the label.

The section entitled, "Specific Ornamental Listing of Pesticides for Disease Control,"
alphabetically presents all ornamentals with specific fungicide or bactericide usages. Ornamentals
with both generic and common names in general use are cross referenced as with Pothos and
Scindapsis. When a given ornamental, such as Gordonia, fails to have any specific legal fungicide use
patterns, refer back to a Broad Crop Clearance category such as Shrub that will allow choice of a
specific disease control pesticide. Please note that the generic fungicide benomyl (Benlate) is legal for
use in the field and greenhouse for an plant that can be categorically considered an ornamental. In
the interests of space, Benlate is not listed under every ornamental but should be considered a viable
control alternative depending on pathogen involved. Refer to the section entitled "Fungicides with
Broad Crop Clearance" for specific pest control information concerning benomyl (Benlate).

Two appendices follow the alphabetical ornamental host list. Apendix I lists all trade names used
in the text in alphabetical order with field vs. greenhouse site clearaces, and the manufacturers.
Appendix II lists manufacturer names, addresses and phone numbers for ease in obtaining distribution
information for a given pesticide in the State of Forida.

Fungicides or bactericides listed for a specific ornamental disease differ in efficacy. Pesticides
listed in this text do not constitute a "Recommended List" for disease control but rather a reference
list in choosing legal pesticide alternatives for ornamental crops. The pesticides listed also differ as to
their method of application and specific site of application. Exotherm Termil, for instance, is
registered for greenhouse use only and is formulated as a dust, which when ignited, will vaporize
throughout a greenhouse. Technically, it is illegal to apply any pesticide in the the greenhouse unless
this application site is listed on the label. Such fungicides that do not stipulate "greenhouse" on the
label, but are cleared for use on certain ornamentals, cannot be legally applied to these plant species
when grown in the greenhouse. See Appendix I for available disease control pesticides with greenhouse
clearance. Specific use information of this type is available on the product label. READ BEFORE YOU
USE! Trade names cited represent those brands with the specific site-pest uses listed on the label and
is not an endorsement of a given brand. Omissions of trade names are not intentional. Please forward
current label information for these missing brands to allow updating of this publication.
