NOTE: Only pests or conditions of general or current interest are reported.
Forecasts are for 1 month in advance unless otherwise indicated.

Rust Mite: 67% of groves infested (Norm 65%); 51% economic (Norm 49%).
Population is near normal and decreasing but is still in the high range. .Although
further decrease is expected, about 20% of groves will have heavy infestations. Highest
districts are South (2.10) West (1.57) and North (1.56).

Citrus Red Mite: 39% of groves infested (Norm 38%);13% economic (Norm 12%).
Population is near normal and in the moderate range. Little change is expected.
Highest districts are North (.97) and West (.71).

Texas Citrus Mite: 22% of groves infested (Norm 40%); 5% economic (Norm 16%).
This mite continues to be below average and in the low range. Population will
remain low in all districts. Highest district is North (.62).

Yellow Scale: 63% of groves infested; 16% economic. Population has decreased to the
moderate range but will continue to be higher than normal for November. Highest dis-
tricts are East (1.05) Central (.91) and South (.76).

Glover Scale: 60% of groves infested; 15% economic. Population is slightly above
normal and in the moderate range. Decrease is expected. Highest districts are
Central (1.06) and East (.95).

Purple Scale: Normal; low to moderate range; decreasing.
Chaff Scale: Below normal; low range; little change.
Black Scale: Below normal; low range; little change.
Whitefly: Below normal; low range; decrease expected.

Explanatory Notes: Each year in November we lower the "high" line on the chart for
citrus red mite and Texas citrus mite. This is because in winter when trees are less
vigorous and the weather is dry, lower spider mite populations can cause important
"firing" and mesophyll collapse. The high range is again set at 1.3 at the end of March.
Index numbers below 0.5 for state or district are mostly in the low range.

"Economic infestations" are those in which the pest is so numerous as to cause
damage (heavy infestations) plus those that are likely to become damaging (moderate
infestations).

The "norm" is the normal or average situation for the specified time of year
based on observations in at least 4 prior years.
