P.K. will have a birthday - its 50~th anniversary, and ve will have to see if: Big Brother is watching. 1983-41 could be considered "the year of the vid- co." All across the nation people were demanding their MTV', and television, movies, and rock stars were big. They influenced and effected our lives in big ways from the way we dress to the way we eat and even how we talk. \Ve wvere invited to talk wvith Joan Rivers, beat it with Michael Jackson, and trade places wvith Eddie Murphy. Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, David Bowie, Journey, Genesis, The Police, ZZ Top, The Fiu, Culture Club. U2, The Eurythmics, along with many others were big names in the music industry. There were several big movies this year. Some with the same familiar old faces and many with Fresh new faces. Some of the films were raving successes, ot hers flops, a nd a few were good, howev- er they had limited engagement. Among the biggies were Return of the jedi, Terms of Endearment, Risky Business, Flashdan~eTeBgCilYnd ALll the Right Moves, The Right Stuff, and Silk- wvoodl. On TL' we saw the end of a great series - "M*A*S*H ', with the quickest return of a sequel series "A4fter M*~A*S*H". Yonge is a tradition of student involve- ment and responsibility in all levels of school life. In past years a student represen- tative has attended faculty meetings, and voted there. Student representatives have also met wvith parent groups and other stu- dent groups. Those involved with student government have learned to become effective advocates. They learned the difficulties of meeting the needs of a community as diverse as a K-12 school. According to Dr. Baldwin, student government advisor, "Student government has had an impact on everything from cur- riculum to coordinating club activities." The strength of the tradition is based on hard work, and an understanding of the responsibilities of elected positions. I ~iidab '' ExEcutneT Board members Brette W~illiam; (President).
