TRAINING OF LOCAL PERSONNEL
FOR SUPERVISORY POSITIONS
Agreement between Geest Industries Limited
and the Ministry of Home Affairs exists whereby
suitably qualified local persons are given training
in Estate Management with a veiw to equip them
for manegerial and supervisory positions on large
Such training will include basic office Account-
ing and Recording procedures and will cover
checking stores, field and labour records, etc.
It will also include General Field Duties and this
part of the course is designed to familiarise the
trainee with the layout of the estate and the field
work being carried out. The trainee will then be
introduced to supervisory duties, including Ad-
ministration, and will gradually be given responsi-
bility for a few days at a time to supervise routine
There will be quarterly reports on the progress
made and it is expected if the course is satisfactorily
completed the trainees should be ready to assume
responsibility at the bottom rung of the mane-
gerial ladder, while no firm promise is given that
trainees will be employed with Geest at the success-
ful completion of their training, given the present
demand for persons with the skills they have
acquired, there is every prospect of obtaining
employment either with Geest or other firms look-
ing for such personnel.
During the first year of training a salary of
$150.00 per month will be paid and this will rise
to $200.00 per month in the second year.
It is most important that the Candidates
selected for this training should have the education-
al standard necessary to profit from this programme
of studies, and to cultivate the right management
attitudes. It has therefore been decided that
Candidates must have at least G.C.E. "O" level
in five suitable subjects including Maths and English
Candidates should be between the ages 17-25
Applicants are therefore invited, stating:
(a) Date & place of birth
(b) At least one testimonial, and
(c) Educational standard attained with details
of subjects and levels passed
and should be addressed to the Permanent Secretary
Ministry of Home Affairs to reach his Office not
not later than 15th October, 1969.
A Selection Committee will screen the Can-
didates and a final selection will be made. Success-
ful Candidates will be advised of the date and place
where they should report for duty.
