AIDED NEMATODE CONTROL SCHEME
Following the report by Dr. Edmunds, Winban Research Nematol-
ogist cf the enormous economic loss caused by the ravages o f
nematodes on bananas in the Windward Islands, and in view of the
increasingly urgent need for the improvement of banana crop ef-
ficiency, the. Board of Management has' decided to inaugurate a n
aided nematode control scheme by the method of soil injections
of the nematicide D.B.C.P., (Nemagon, Jebagon and Fumazone are
all., Aa t namef'fo9r dibromochloropropane: D.B.C.P.).
It was agreed that:-
1. The treatment shall be applied free of charge to the cult-
ivations of participants in this Scheme by the Associatinzs
2. The required nematicide at the approved rate of 3 gallons
per acre, costing $20.58 per gallon, (i;61.14 per acre)
shall be supplied under this Scheme n credit to particip-
ants at half of the cost. on the terms stated below; (prov-
ided that any participant may make an outright purchase of
his nematicide requirements in respect of the Scheme at
half the cost).
3. The limit of aid which may be extended under this Scheme
to any grower shall be the treatment of 100 acres of ban-
Applications -for participation in this Scheme from growers in
the Northern District shall be addressed to the Branch Manager,
Portsmouth Branch Office, Dominica Banana Growers' Association,
Portsmouth, and applications from growers in Southern and Eastern
Districts shall be addressed to the Fertilizer Officer, Dominica
Banana Growers' Association, Roseau.
Application forms can be obtained at Head Office, Roseau, and
at Portsmouth Branch Office. Such forms will also be obtainable
from the Chief Inspectors of the Leaf Spot Department.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE ISSETS OF NEMATICIDES ON CREDIT
UNDER THE SCHEME AT HALF OF THE COST
(1) The applicant must be free from any debt in respect of the
PeVtiliser Credit Scheme.
(2) The applicant must also have a good history of the repay-
ment of any debt incurred by him under the Fertiliser
(3) The eligibility of a grower for nematicide< on credit und&
this Scheme shall be dependent upon the regular present-
ation of his Selling Card at the time of the sale of his
bananas since the inception of the Fertiliser Subsidisat-

(4) The banana production-of the holding must be at a suffic-
ient level to permit repayment of the debt within six
months from the date of the anti-nematode treatment.
(5) The applicant shall be required to, sign as agreement set-
ting forth the terms and conditions of issues and repay-
It should be noted that included in the terms of the
Agreement is an undertaking by the grower not to dispose
or part with the possession of the holding, or any part
thereot, in respect of which this application is made,
during such time. as any indebtedness under the Scheme is
(1) Repayment must be completed within six months of issue
provided that in the case of windstorm damage or other
set-back an extension of the time for repayment m4y be
granted by the Board at its discretion.
(2) Repayment shall be in the form of deductions from the
banana sales of the debtor grower at the time he receives
payment and shall be on a sliding scale related to the
Banana Price at the Reception Depots as follows:-
When the price is 3 cents and below: No deduction.
When the price is over 5 cents and up to 4 cents: if per lb.
