INDEX OF DISEASES AFFECTING SUMMER-GROWING TROPICAL FORAGE LEGUMES IN
FLORIDA
1 2 3 4
R. M. Sonoda J. M. Lenne A. E. Kretschmer, Jr. and J. B. Brolmann

Summer-growing tropical forage legumes of various genera are slowly
being accepted for use in pastures in south Florida. Most of these
legumes are memberss of little-studied genera and species. Many are
*species that have only recently been brought into cultivation. With
increasing cultivation of these species there is an increased potential
for losses to plant diseases. In most instances, only a few diseases
have been reported for each plant. The following is a list of diseases
observed on various tropical forage legumes in Florida. Some of the
diseases have been identified as significant factors in the utilization
of a particular legume in Florida, others are cosmetic. The potential
hazard of most of the diseases to tropical forage legume culture in
Florida is not known. Many of the diseases have been observed only in
small experimental plantings of a legume.

The format of this index is similar to that used in the "Index of
Plant Diseases in Florida" (12), with the exception that each of the
diseases in referenced with a publication, if available. For some of
the legumes, a significant portion of the diseases listed comes from
that index (12). The Index of Plant Diseases in Florida should be con-
*sulted for lists of diseases affecting: a) winter growing forage
legumes, and b) Medicago spp. and Trifolium spp.. The letters a, b, c,
etc., following a disease description, indicate the species affected.
The numbers (in parenthesis) following the letters indicate the refer-
ence listed. When a disease has been observed by any of the authors,
but no publication prepared, the abbreviation (po) for personal obser-
vation is used in place of the reference number.
