1971 CLMIATOLOGICAL REPORT

T. N. Casselman -

This report summarizes the weather data collected on the Agricultural Research
and Education Center at Belle Glade during the calendar year 1971. Daily temp-
erature and rainfall observations are tabulated on pages 2 through 7. Cumula-
tive rainfall data comparing 1971-to the 48-year average are on page 8. Monthly
evaporation and relative humidity data are tabulated on page 9. A 48-year summary
(1924-1971) appears on page 10.

All observations are made at 8 a.m. each day and cover the previous 24-hour
period. For example, on January 19 at 8 a.m. maximum and minimum temperatures of
74 F and 50 OF, respectively, and a rainfall of 0.72 inches were recorded. This
means that these temperatures were reached sometime during the 24-hour period
from 8 a.m. January 18 to 8 a.m. January 19. The rainfall likewise occurred at
some time during this same period.

Rainfall. Total rainfall for 1971 was 55.02 inches as compared to the 48-
year average of 58.08 inches. June was the "wettest" month with 11.68 inches
recorded; November was "wetter" than normal with 5.09 inches as compared to
the average 2.07 inches. January, March, April, July, August, September and
December had rainfalls below normal.

Relative Humidity. Mean maximum relative humidity by months varied between
100% and 96%; mean minimum between 62% and 42%.

Temperature. Temperatures of 40 OF or lower were recorded on January 2, 20,
21, 28 and 29; February 10, 11 and 15; and March 5 and 9. Average spring and
summer temperatures were about normal. February, October and November averaged
2 0F above normal. December was abnormally warm with a 71 0F average as compared
to the 64 F 48-year average.
