1967 CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT

T. V,. Casselman-/

This report summarizes the weather data collected on the Ever-
glades Experiment Station during the calendar year 1967. Daily tem-
peratures and rainfall observations are tabulated on pages 2 through
7. Cumulative rainfall data comparing 1967 to the 44-year average
are on page 8. Monthly evaporation and relative humidity data are
tabulated on page 9. A 44-year sum-ary (1924-1967) appears on page 10.

All observations are made at 8 a.m. each day and cover the
previous 24-hour period. For example, on February 22 at 8 a.m. maximum
and minimum temperatures of 850 F and 610 F, respectively, and a rain-
fall of 1.19 inches were recorded. This means that these temperatures
were reached sometime during the 24-hour period from 8 a.m. February 21
to 8 a.m. February 22. Similarly, the rain fell sometime during the
same time period.

Rainfall. Total rainfall for 1967 was 33.52 inches as compared
to the 44-year average of 52.12 inches. All months except February
and December were deficient in rainfall as compared to the average.
This was the "driest" year on record for this Station. The previous
lowest total rainfall occurred in 1956 when 39.55 inches were recorded.

Relative Humidity. Mean maximum relative humidity by months
varied between 100% and 96%; mean minimum between 62% and 51%.

Temperatures. Temperatures of 400 F or lower were recorded on
January 6, 29, 30 and February 10, 11, 26, 27. Average monthly tem-
peratures as a whole did not vary more than 10 from the 44-year average.
However, January averaged 30 higher than the average, March 20 higher
and December 30 higher resulting in one of the warmest years on record.

Hurricanes. Hurricanes posed no threat to this area this year.

1/ Assistant Agricultural Engineer, Everglades Experiment Station,
Belle Glade, Florida.
