Climarcctological Report, 1963. /
Edward King, Jr., and T. W. Casse,'

SUMMARY

This report summarizes the weather data collected on the Everglades Experiment
Station for the calendar year 1963. Daily temperature and rainfall observations are
listed on pages 2 through 7. Cumulative rainfall for 1963 is compared to the 40 year
average on page 8. Page 9 is a graphic illustration of 1963 monthly temperatures
and rainfall as compared to the average. Monthly evaporation and relative humidity
data are tabulated on page 10. A 40-year summary (1924-1963) appears on page 11.

Rainfall: Total rainfall for the year was 49.87 inches, 8.24 inches below the
average of 56.11 inches. The months of March, April, July and August experienced
the greatest deficits compared to the average. June was the wettest month with
11.59 inches recorded, an excess over the average of 2.34 inches. However, the rain-
fall was well distributed over the month with precipitation recorded on 19 days.
May had an excess of 2.33 inches and on the 4th 3.66 inches were recorded, a 24 hour
rainfall record for this month at this station. December experienced a 4.00 inch
excess. On the 31st a record 4.44 inches were recorded as the greatest amount during
a 24 hour period for this month. The total for December was 5.66 inches. These
excesses, however, were not sufficient to overcome the deficit for the year.

Relative Humidity: Mean maximum relative humidity by months varied from 100%
to 98%; mean minimum from 65% to 53%. The overall average for the year was 79%.

Temperature: Minimum temperatures below 400F occurred on January 9 & 10,
February 14, November 15, and December 2, 10, 25, 26 & 27. The lowest temperature
recorded, 33 F, occurred December 26th. Frost that morning was moderate. Light,
scattered frost occurred on some of the other nights when temperatures below 40F
were recorded. Temperatures for December were about 5F lower than the average.
