CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT, 1959

Summary


The report contained in the following ten pages is a summary of the
weather data collected at the Everglades Station for the calender year 1959.
Daily temperature and rainfall records are listed for each month on pages
2-7. Evaporation and relative humidity are tabulated on page 8. A thirty-
six year summary (1924-1959 incl.) of weather data, including extremes, is
listed on page 9. A graphic illustration of temperatures and rainfall for
1959 in comparison with the average is shown on page 10.

Rainfall: Total rainfall for the year was 72.99 inches. This was 14.52 inches
acove the 36-year average. No monthly or daily records were broken.

Seven months (March, May, June, July, September, October, and November)
were above average in total rainfall, while January, February, April, August,
and December were below the normal. Greatest months were July and September
with 11.37 and 11.65 inches, respectively. The lowest month was December with
0.47 inches. Greatest 24-hour rainfall was 4.16 inches recorded on September 12.

Relative Humidity: Mean maximum relative humidity was 98 to 100 percent for all
monthia except October through December. During these months the mean maximum
relative humidity records were 94 to 97 percent. Mean minimum relative humidity
ranged from 44 to 51 percent for all months.

Temperature: Minimum temperature dropped below 400 F. on six days during i '..
month of January. Two were below freezing, namely, January 11 and 18 with
tempe-ratu.rs of 310 and 300 F., respectively. This was the coldest month of
the year. There were two days during March, one in November and two in
December when temperatures dropped below 400 F.

The mean temperature for February was 710 F., 7 degrees above the 36-year
average. Monthly mean temperatures for the rest of the year did not vary much
from normal.

Minimum temperatures recorded during November and December were 330 and
380 respectively. Maximum temperatures of 930 F. were recorded on June 3,
September 30 and October 3.
