CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT, 1958

The report contained in the following ten pages is a sum be T tbhe
weather data collected at the Everglades Station for the calendar year--9.
Daily temperature and rainfall values are recorded for ea._h month on pages 2-7.
Evaporation, minimum relative humidity, and monthly total are tabulated on
page 8. A thirty-five year summary (1924-58 incl.) of wea.-er datca, including
extremes, is listed on page 9. A graphic illustration of temperatures and
rainfall for 1958 is shown on page 10.

Rainfall: Total rainfall for the year 1958 was 62.31 inches. This was 4.59
inches above the 35-year average. Two monthly records were broken during the
year--January and May. January had a total rainfall of 8.53 inches greatest
amount to fall in the 35-year period, 1924-58. May also broke the 35-year
record with a monthly rainfall of 9.52 inches.

The months of January, March, May and December were far above the aver-
age in total rainfall, while February June, July, September and November were
below the normal. Greatest month was May with 9.52 inches. Lowest month was
November with 0.56 inches. Greatest 24-hour rainfall was 2.98 inches on March
26.

Humidity: Maximum relative humidity of 100 percent was reached on every day for
the period May-November. Mean Maximum R. H. was 98 to 100 percent for all
months. Mean minimum relative humidity for January was 67 percent; all other
months ranged from 45 to 56 percent.

Temperature: There were 6 days in which the temperature dropped below 40
degrees during the month of January. Two were below freezing--January 9 and
10, with temperatures Of 30 and 31 degrees, respectively. February had 11
days in which the temperature was below 40 degrees. Four of these were freer-
ing temperatures of 29, 28, 29 and 32 degrees on February 4, 5, 14 and 21,
respectively.

The mean temperature for January was 57 degrees, or 6 degrees below the
35-year average. February's mean was 55 degrees, or 9 degrees below the 35-year
average. The mean temperature for all other months was at or near the 35-year
average.

Minimum temperatures for November and December were 50 end 38 degrees
respectively. Highs of 94 were recorded in June, July and September.
