1991 CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT

C.F. MILLER

This report summarizes the 1991 weather data collected at the
Everglades Reseach and Education Center, Belle Glade, Florida; R-37-E
T-44-E; Elevation 11.5 ft.m.s.l..

All observations are made at 8 a.m. each day and cover the
previous 24 hour period. However, to support local agricultural
interests, the observed data is reported on the Calendar Day basis.
An explanation of the various weather data collected follows:

AIR TEMPERATURE Recorded in a standard weather shelter, 5 feet
above ground level. The minimum temfe ure normally occurs
in the early morning hours, while the mafiftcen the after-

SOLAR RADIATION Sunlight energy measure in na leys gram

RAINFALL Inches of rainfall measure~-tl, 8 a.m. from a standard
rain gauge. Rain that falls fro ni Af' o.8 a.m is
credited to the previous day in th o qrida
EVAPORATION A measure of water loss from-a s rdf
evaporation pan in inches. Again, loss from midni ht to
8 a.m. is credited to the previous day. Most evaporation
occurs during sunlight hours when temperature is high and
humidity is low.
WIND Recorded on a strip chart from a height of 20 feet.
The wind is reported in miles traveled per day.
SOIL TEMPERATURE Taken from the depth of 4 inches below bare
ground. Minimum temperature normally occurs in the a.m. and
the maximum in the afternoon.
RELATIVE HUMIDITY The ratio between the amount of water vapor
in the air and the maximum amount of vapor which the air
could hold at a given temperature, recorded on a strip
chart in the weather shelter.
WETNESS Hours that moisture from rain or dew stays on foliage,
recorded on a strip chart from an electric moisture cell.
SOLAR THERMAL UNITS These units are based on the equation:
