1976 CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT
C. R. Wilcoxen and R. J. Allen, Jr.-

This report summarizes the weather data collected on the Agricultural Research
and Education Center at Belle Glade during the calendar year 1976. Daily temper-
ature and rainfall observations are tabulated on pages 2 through 7. Cumulative
rainfall data comparing 1976 to the 53 year average are on page 8. Monthly
evaporation and relative humidity data are tabulated on page 10. A 53-year summary
(1924-1976) appears on page 11.

All observations are made at 8 a.m. each day and cover the previous 24-hour
period. For example, on January 14 at 8 a.m. maximum and minimum temperatures of
800F and 590F, respectively, and a rainfall of 0.00 inches were recorded. This
means that these temperatures were reached sometime during the 24-hour period
from 8 a.m. January 13 to 8 a.m. January 14. The rainfall likewise occurred at
sometime during this same period.

Rainfall: Total for 1976 was 40.31 inches #Ed tqhSZ t average
of 56.98 inches. All months except February, Ma and Decem INWWd ficit rain-
fall compared to the 53-year average. May was the wettest month having .84 inches,
an excess of 3.08 above average. January was thj driep, o'th h only 0.40 inch
recorded. The year finished with a deficit of 16.67 inches.

Relative Humidity: Monthly maximum average Fi 19%. and minimum averages
varied between 60% and 32%. V- -Of forid|

Temperature: Forty degrees F or lower were recorded on January 9, 18, 19, 23,
and 29; December 28 and 29. February, June, July, August, September, November, and
December temperatures equal to the 53-year average. January and October had temper-
atures of 10 colder. All other months had temperatures of I to 6F higher than the
53-year average.

Frost: Some leaf crops were killed by frost this year.

Hurricanes: This area was not affected by hurricanes this year.

Solar Radiation: Solar radiation has been recorded at this station since April
1971, using an Epploy model 8-48 Pyranometer and a Leeds-Northrup Speedomax H model
S Recorder with a Disc Instruments, Inc. model 207, Series D Chart Integrator. The
record has been continuous except for February and March, 1974, when the pyranometer
was out for repair. Average daily Langley Units (cal/cm2) for each month are shown
in the table on page 13. Incoming solar energy dropped each year from 1971 through
1974, but increased in 1975.
