1974 CLIMATOLOGICAL REPORT
C. R. Wilcoxen and R. J. Allen, Jr.-

This report summarizes the weather data collected on the Agricultural Research
and Education Center at Belle Glade during the calendar year 1974. Daily temperature
and rainfall observations are tabulated on pages 2 through 7. Cumulative rainfall
data comparing 1974 to the 51-year average are on page 8. 'Monthly evaporation and
relative humidity data are tabulated on page 10. A 51-year summary (1924-1974)
appears on page 11.

All observations are made at 8 a.m. each day and cover the previous 24-hour
period. For example, on January 15 at 8 a.m. maximum and minimum temperatures of
680F and 620F, respectively, and a rainfall of 0.30 inches were recorded. This
means that these temperatures were reached sometime during the 24-hour period from
8 a.m. January 14 to 8 a.m. January 15. The rainfall likewise occurred at sometime
during this same period.

Rainfall: Total for 1974 was 50.61 inches as compared to the 51 year average
of 57.69 inches. All months except June, July, and September showed deficit rain-
fall compared to the 51 year average. June was the wettest month having 13.12
inches, an excess of 3.61 above average. February was the driest month with only
0.19 inch recorded. The year finished with a.deficit of 7.08 inches.

Relative Humidity: Monthly maximum averages varied between 100% and 97%;
minimum averages between 53% and 34%.

Temperature: Forty' degrebsi For lower were recorded onFebruary 11, 12, 13,
and 18; and December 2, and 10. The winter, early spring and late fall months
(except January and March which had temperatures 1 to 30 F higher than the 51 year
average) were normal. Summer months were about normal.

Frost:! This area was not affected by frost this year.

Hurricanes: This area was not affected by hurricanes this year.
