FOREWORD

The primary purpose for this bibliography was
to apprise the Legislative Council's Committee on
Governmental Organization, at the outset of its study
following the adjournment of the 1959 session, con-
cerning the material on Florida government that was
already available. In this it has served and is serving
the committee well.

A further purpose in reproducing it is to give
all members of the Florida Legislature a reference to
which they may turn for information as to writings
related to Florida government. It is our trust that
many Legislators will keep it for future reference
and find such reference helpful. The Bureau's
Reference Library either contains or will assist
in locating any listed publications.

Much selection has been necessary in compiling
this list. Generally, only material helpful to a
legislative study has been included--that is, material
descriptive of the present status of an agency or
level of government or of possible changes in the
present provisions relating thereto, or both. Most
matters considered to have only an historic value
or to have become out-dated by subsequent changes
in governmental operation have been omitted here
but may be readily located in the comprehensive
bibliographies contained in any of the State's
libraries, including that of the Reference Bureau.

The assistance of this committee's Subcommittee
on Bibliography, listed on the opposite page, is
gratefully acknowledged. Likewise, the committee
is indebted to the Bibliography of Florida Government
by Dr. William F. Larsen, published by the University
of Florida in 1955.
Since every possible source could not be reviewed,
the committee solicits references to additional material
of a nature that suggests its inclusion in future
editions of this bibliography. Similarly, comments
as to content and style are welcomed.

October 14, 1960
William V. Chappell, Jr.
Chairman, Committee on
Governmental Organization
