Dear Loretta:

During our discussions today we touched briefly on
the impact on the water-table due to a change from the
3-foot to 5-foot cycle and on a 6-week period below the
5-foot cycle. Enclosed is a copy of a memorandum pre-
pared for the City of St. Petersburg describing our
evaluation of the water-level impacts such changes would
have.

Although the memo is self-explanatory, I wish to
emphasize the conclusions shown in Table 2. The water-
table decline, assuming no recharge occurs, will be in-
creased by about .001 feet per day(f/d).

Average Water Levels at Cosme and Section 21

As a result of a conversation with Ms. Vandel, I have

received some calculations from her showing the amount of

leakage and resulting water-level declines in the regula-

i tory Vells in Cosme and Section 21 Well Fields as a result

i. of dropping the regulatory minimum from 3 to 5 feet below

the regulatory level. The calculations were done at the

radius and Zh which would pass 1,000 gpd/acre. The speci-

fic yield of the sands was assumed to be 0.2. The leakage

coefficients are these which were used to determine the

regulatory levels. The calculations are shown in Table 1.

Results from these calculations are very interesting;

as shown on Table 2, the difference between the 3 and 5

foot minimum is negligible. Even if the 5-foot minimum

were held for an entire year, the additional water-table

loss would be only 0.52 feet in Section 21 and 0.49 feet

in Cosme. As shown in Table 2, the calculated daily dif-

ference would hardly be within the measurement tolerance

of the recording instrument.
