RE: Recreational Facilities 4RB
Phase I Morris Bridge and Flint Creek Sites
Morris Bridge Site:
SH#45 Foot Bridges: These bridges do not appear to meet regulatory criteria
normally used for bridges over major navigable streams. The District would
require applicants for bridge crossings to provide a minimum clearance of 2'
above the 25 year flood. In this instance the 25 year flood level is 36.6' MSL
and mid channel low member elevation should be 38.6' MSL. The Corps should
provide us with data to indicate that the two bridges will withstand a 25 year
flood without significant head loss. It is recommended at this time that the
two bridges be raised or deleted from the project.
SH#2 Floating Dock: It is recommended that the floating dock at Morris
Bridge be reversed in order to have the open end facing downstream in order
to avoid collecting plants and debris.
Phase II Trout Creek and Dead River Sites
Trout Creek Site South:
SH#3 Bridge: This bridge across the floodway is below the 25 and 100 year
floods by 2' and 4.8' respectively and may cause jams of plants and debris.
This bridge would not meet criteria the District would impose on an applicant
for a bridge crossing of project works.
Trout Creek Site North:
SH#4 Ramp and Dock: It is recommended that the fixed walk and floating dock
be placed on the upstream side of the boat ramp because it is easier to launch
and land boats.
Dead River Site East:
SH#5: Pull off areas should be closer to the blind curves.
SH#6: Recommend an additional three pull off areas.
