Dear Dr. Vernons

Florida Power & Light Company hereby nakes application for authority
to divert water from the Little Manatea River for use as condenser
cooling water for a power plant planned for Manatee County. The
point of diversion would be upstream from U. S. 301 near Wimauma,
Florida. The method of diverting this water will be by means of a
scalping type pumping station. The water diverted from the Little
Manatee River will be pumped to a 4,000 acre cooling reservoir which
will be an integral part of the planned power plant. Details con-
cerning the amount of water to be diverted from the river, the
specific point of diversion, information on flows, and other pertinent
data relevant to this application is contained in the attached Brown
& Root, Inc. "Water Supply Study, Little Manatee River, Near Wimauma,
Florida for 1700 MW Plant, Florida Power & Light Company, April 1972".

/ WI hava had several discussions with Southwest Florida Water Management
District concerning the alternatives for obtaining the condenser cooling
v after for--he-prqposed plant. One of these alternatives was the object
of an application to Southwest Florida Water Management District, which
is currently being held in abeyance at our request.

In the interest of keeping SWFWMD informed of our efforts, we are for-
warding them a copy of this application.

As you are aware, there has been considerable delay in c:: constructing
a much needed power plant in Manatee County. Your early attention in
processing this application would be greatly appreciated.

Si3pcerely,
-
