Representative John Cosgrove
19 West Flagler St. #215
Miami, FL 33130

Dear Johns

Thank you for meeting with Matty Bloom and me last week.

As I mentioned to you just as we were leaving Neighbors, I
am serving on the Environmental Efficiency Study Commission.
I am the only functioning member of the commission from
Dade County, and since the commission's only public hearing
in South Florida was held in Ft. Lauderdale, I am particu-
larly eager to learn of problems Dade County residents face
in dealing with Florida's overlapping environmental laws
and regulations. (If you wonder why someone on the Planned
Parenthood public affairs committee would be serving on the
EESC, Harry Johnston appointed me to the commission because
I have been active on environmental issues for the League of
"Women Voters and am a past president of the Dade League and
past vice-president of the Florida League.) You mentioned
problems which farmers have had. with overlapping permit re-
quirements. The commission has heard. a lot from developers
(and I have been in contact with the South Florida Home
Builders Association,) but we have heard little from farmers.
If you know anyone who would like to communicate his frus-
trations to the commission, please have him contact me or the
commission. The commission's address isi
Environmental Efficiency Study Commission
122 East Jefferson Street
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-1400
(904) 487-3733.
By the way, the League of Women Voters supports the elimination
of all sales tax exemptions, except on medicine, medical
services and groceries. I am fully in agreement with that
position, so if you feel pressured into voting for sunsetting
the exemptions, know that you have at least one constituent
supporting you.

Thanks again for having taken time from your busy schedule to
meet with Matty and me.

.Sincerely yours,

Carol Rist
