Dear Myron: ..
The District has determined the cost of publishing the Notice of Water
Shortage for one month will be $4,586.00. In preparing the format for
the current notice, I followed that used for the Declaration in 1973.
The three newspapers selected are the Lakeland Ledger, Tampa Tribune
and St. Petersburg Times. A notice was to be published together with a
map the statutorily numbered of times under Section 373.175, Florida
Don has expressed concern on the costs for the publication and the fact
of the potential need to continue it for quite some time. I have been
asked about cutting the costs and to consult with you on your thoughts
and suggestions. The area of the water shortage appears to be one of
the major elements in causing the extensive costs. In order to get the
notice to the areas concerned, the three newspapers indicated above were
Perhaps you might feel that one of the newspapers could be eliminated or
the size, text or layout of the notice could be reduced in order to bring
the costs within reasonable bounds.
Accordingly, I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on ways to
reduce the cost of publication.
