OPENIK.. STATEMENT FOR CONTINUATIC OF
HEARING ON DECLARATION OF WATER SHORTAGE

IT IS NOW TIME TO PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUATION OF THE PUBLIC
HEARING FROM JULY 9, 1975, ON THE DECLARED WATER SHORTAGE AREA, AS
SCHEDULED AND ADVERTISED FOR THIS DATE AND TIME.
THIS HEARING IS CONDUCTED BY THE GOVERNING BOARD OF THE
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT PURSUANT TO SECTIONS
373.229, 373.175 AND 373,249, FLORIDA STATUTES, WHEREIN A DECLARATION
OF WATER SHORTAGE HAS BEEN DECLARED IN THAT PART OF THE DISTRICT
ENCOMPASSING THE ALAFIA RIVER BASIN, HILLSBOROUGH RIVER BASIN,
NORTHWEST HILLSBOROUGH BASIN, THAT PART OF PINELLAS-ANCLOTE RIVER
BASIN NORTH OF SR 584 AND EAST OF HIGHWAY U. S. 19, AND THAT PART OF
THE PEACE RIVER BASIN IN POLK, HARDEE AND DESOTO COUNTIES IN THAT
INSUFFICIENT GROUND AND SURFACE WATER IS AVAILABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS
OF THE USERS AND TO UNDERTAKE THE NECESSARY MEASURES AND ISSUE SUCH
ORDERS AND IMPOSE SUCH RESTRICTIONS ON ALL USERS AND PERMITTEES IN
THESE AREAS AS THE BOARD MAY DEEM NECESSARY TO PROTECT THE WATER
RESOURCES OF THE AREA FROM SERIOUS HARM AND TO ALLOW A RESTORATION OF
THEIR PREVIOUS CONDITION AND TO TAKE SUCH OTHER MEASURES AS MAY BE
NECESSARY TO MEET THE WATER SHORTAGE.
A NUMBER OF PEOPLE MAY WISH TO SPEAK AND MAY DO SO IN AN ORDERLY
MANNER. THE BOARD EXPECTS YOUR COOPERATION AND WILL ATTEMPT TO GIVE
EVERYONE A REASONABLE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK. ANYONE WISHING TO TESTIFY
SHOULD STEP FORWARD TO A MICROPHONE, GIVE YOUR NAME, ADDRESS AND COMPANY
AFFILIATION AND BE SWORN BY OUR ATTORNEY FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF RECORDING
IT AS PART OF THE RECORD.
BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE RECEIPT OF ANY EVIDENCE, I CALL UPON OUR
ATTORNEY FOR THE DISTRICT TO INTRODUCE ANY EXHIBITS DEALING WITH THIS
HEARING AND MAKE ANY FURTHER STATEMENTS.
