1 (1) All of the area of each district shall be sub-

2 divided by the respective governing boards of the districts

3 into subdistricts or basins.

4 (a) Such subdivision may follow United States Depart-

5 ment of Interior geological survey drainage areas, subregions,

6 accounting units, or cataloging units, as well as groundwater

7 divides, or a combination thereof, or such other method

8 determined by the respective governing board.
9 (b) The Northwest Florida Water Management District

10 shall be subdivided into not fewer than 3 nor more than 11

11 subdistricts or bsins.
12 (c) The Suwannee River Water Management District shall

13 be subdivided into not fewer than 4 nor more than 8 subdistrict

14 or basins.

15 (d) The St. Johns River Water Management District shall

16 be subdivided into not fewer than 4 nor more than 8 subdistricts

or basins and shall include:
18 1. A subdistrict or basin designated as the Upper

19 St. Johns Basin consisting of the area within the district

20 which was formerly contained within the Central and Southern

21 Florida Flood Control District.

22 2. A subdistrict or basin designated as the Oklawaha

23 Basin consisting of the area within the district which was

24 formerly contained within the Southwest Florida Water Manage-

25 ment District.
26 3. Such other subdistricts or basins as the governing

board shall determine consistent with the introductory

paragraph hereof.

29 (e) The Southwest Florida Water Management District

shall be subdivided into not fewer than 7 nor more than 12

1 subdistricts or basins including:

2 1. A subdivision or basin designated as The Green

3 Swamp Basin, as described in Section 5, Chapter 61-691, Laws

4 of Florida. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (2),

5 the Green Swamp Basin shall be controlled by the governing

6 board of the district. There shall be no basin tax levy

7 within the Green Swamp Basin and district wide tax levies are

8 provided and may be used to produce the necessary funds with

9 which the district may finance activities within or for the

10 benefit of the Green Swamp Basin.

11 2. A subdivision or basin designated as the Manasota

12 Basin consisting of the area within the district which was

13 formerly contained within the Ridge and Lower Gulf Coast Water
14 Management District. The governing board subsequently may

15 realign the boundaries of the Manasota Basin by adding portions
16 of Charlotte County and by deleting portions of Manatee County

17 which are part of the Little Manatee River drainage area.
18 3. Such other subdistricts or basins as the governing

19 board shall determine consistent with the introductory para-

20 graph hereof.
21 (f) The South Florida Water Management District shall

22 be subdivided into not fewer than 4 nor more than 8 subdistrict

23 or basins and shall include:

24 1. A subdistrict or basin designated as the Big Cypress

25 Basin consisting of the area within the district which was

26 formerly designated as the Big Cypress Basin of the Ridge and

27 Lower Gulf Coast Water Management District, provided that the

28 governing board may exclude the part thereof which is within

29 the area generally designated as the Caloosahatchee River basin

30 together with areas to the north.

1 2. A subdistrict or basin designated as the Keys Basin

2 consisting of the area within the district which was formerly

3 designated as the Keys Basin of the Ridge and Lower Gulf Coast

4 Water Management District.

5 3. A subdistrict or basin designated as the Ridge

6 Basin consisting of the area within the district which was

7 formerly designated as the Ridge Basin of the Ridge and Lower

8 Gulf Coast Water Management District.

9 4. Such other subdistricts or basins as the governing

10 board shall determine consistent with the introductory para-

11 graph hereof.

12 (g) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (2),

13 the South Florida Water Management District may establish a

14 Lake Okeechobee basin comprised of Lake Okeechobee and the

15 area immediately adjacent thereto, including appurtenant works

16 which basin may be controlled by the governing board of the

17 district and the necessary funds to finance activities within

18 or for the benefit of the Lake Okeechobee basin may be appro-

19 priated by the governing board from district wide tax levies,

20 in lieu of a basin tax levy for such basin.
